Our beeswax taper candles are live on our website! Made with 100% beeswax, these candles have a beautiful natural color and scent (think a subtle sweet honey smell!). They come in 6 inch or 10 inch lengths (sets of 2).

Did you realize that honey has an ancient and rich history?

It has been around for as long as humans have been recording history. There are fossils of honeybees that date back to 150 million years and Spain cave paintings from 7,000 BC that depict beekeeping.

Egyptians depicted bees in their hieroglyphs, used honey as a sweetener, offered it as gifts to the gods, and used it as an ingredient in embalming fluid.

Greeks viewed honey as a food and healing medicine. The Romans used honey in much of their cooking, and beekeeping played a significant role during the Roman Empire.

When Christianity became prevalent, there was an increased demand for honey and beeswax to supply candles for churches.

Bearding is when bees gather at the entrance of their hive in a beard-like shape. They use special techniques when they do this to help regulate the temperature and humidity levels in their hive. Many people might assume that the bees are preparing to swarm when they see them bearding, but it is actually a normal and healthy process for the bees.

Why do beekeepers wear white?
It seems that bees dislike dark colors, because they have evolved and adapted to protect themselves.

Most predators that attack bees or their hives, tend to be dark-colored animals.

It is thought, that over time, bees have evolved to dislike dark colors, in order to protect themselves.

When a beekeeper wears white, they can approach a hive with less chance of the bees becoming defensive or attacking them.

This allows the beekeeper to stay safe and do their job, as well as have happy calm hives!
