As we head into a sunshine filled weekend, we wanted to leave you with some beautiful words from our fellow teacher, Alexis ✨:
“A beautiful moment from this weekend. For about 5-8 seconds my body was a strong open sail, my breath helped me both stabilize and expand.
Let’s talk about what the picture doesn’t reveal— the wind. It was strong and unwavering at the end of the pier. I wiggled and struggled into, and out of and into this posture again and again. Was this moment beautiful? Absolutely. Worth attaching to? Not so much. I can’t look at this moment where everything in the universe fell in tune just right and base my self worth (or my contentment and joy) of achieving that level of “success” or mastery all the time.
I’m a human being, I ebb, I flow, I change, I fall and that’s okay. Yoga is skill in action. It teaches us that we bring different minds and bodies to the mat everyday and that’s okay, because the best things in life take time and effort. It teaches us that life is best lived with the proper balance of accountability and compassion.
We want to find and continually fan our internal flame & what drives us, pushing ourselves to achieve new heights in our practice and in our lives, but we also want to find the joy that exists in the struggle to get there & all the spaces in between.
This was a beautiful moment, but it was just that. A moment. The goal is to show up for ourselves and hold space for the entire experience. To celebrate and be fully present for all the highs, to remain grounded & (somewhat) centered and loving toward ourselves for all the lows. With the knowledge that the best & worst things in life are temporary and inevitable. Bad days happen, life is hard, nothing is perfect, including me.. but that’s why we call it a practice. ❤️”

Join us tomorrow (Saturday, June 27th) as we flow for a cause and raise funds for Huntington's Disease during the 4th annual Yoga In The Park event.

This year, due to Michigan's Stay Home, Stay Safe order, all classes will be on Zoom and the event will be called Yoga In Your Park!

If you're able, grab your mat and flow from your backyard or a nearby park—6ft from your neighbor, of course.

All proceeds benefit the Huntington's Disease Society of America Michigan Chapter as donations directly support local families affected by this disease.

Huge thank you to our teacher, Don Peasley for coordinating such a beautiful event. This year will be no different!

We are holding space in our community for healing and learning.
We believe that Every Body has the right to exist freely, take up space, and be, without fear.
We know that words are not enough. We know that we can do better to provide a space of openness and inclusivity in our community while continuing to learn.
We see you, we hear you, we are with you.
Join us in supporting organizations that support the Black community. Some organizations we are learning from: Color Of Change, NAACP, Detroit Justice Center

To Our Yoga Shelter Community:

Providing a place of shelter and nurturing spaces where community is always welcomed is where we are rooted.

While this decision has not been easy, we have decided to suspend in-studio classes starting this evening, March 13th, for what we hope will be a short period of time. During this time, we will be shifting our efforts to create online resources to support your at-home practice.

We are all in this together and we will continue to grow and uplift one another in times of need. Let us continue to find stillness and positivity as we move through our days.

We will be updating you as soon and as often as possible.

Warmly,
Your Yoga Shelter Family
