"Every rhythm has both an inaudible and audible aspect—silence and sound." —Michael Drake
Even in the rattling beads and a quicker rhythm you can feel the sound and silence dancing with each other. Here, the rain beyond the pine tree soothes the mind as a constant swoosh — the rattle, with its higher frequencies, tickling and bringing the mind and brain consciousness here.
In the downstroke the beads land into the rattle's container as they're drawn to earth — and the upstroke they rise back up going only as far as the rattle head's wall. There's a silence between those moments, traveling from heaven to earth and back again. The rattle itself embodies and brings together the masculine and feminine, creating a sense of wholeness and universal power.
The rattle is an effortless yet powerful instrument, one that we commonly give to little ones all around the world, and in many places, the rattle is a sacred tool used for healing.
So if you're unsure about drumming, there will be plenty of rattles to go around in this Friday's circle. And they are just as powerful as the drum.
The particular rattle in this video will connect us as a circle.
I hope to see some of you this Friday at the Boston Tea Room, 5:30-7:00, on the lawn — weather looks lovely — any changes we'll be inside. Sign-up is on Boston Tea Room's event/workshops page.
