TBH...with all due respect: this opinion is so effing wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️ An IBCLC needs to do a full functional oral suck assessment then offer interventions. If dysfunction is found, suck training and body work is warranted. If those interventions don't resolve the feeding problems then a properly trained and well-experiened release provider needs to be added to the dyad's care team. And again, with all due respect...pediatricians with their 1 hour (if lucky) of breastfeeding education in medical school have no business making breastfeeding policies/recommendations. IBCLCs such as myself have at minimum 90 hours of lactation education to sit for our certification exam. Also, every five years we need 75 additional continuing education hours to recertify. So if you aren't currently meeting your infant feeding goals see me, not your pediatrician. https://www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/baby/breastfeeding/Pages/tongue-tie-in-babies-how-ankyloglossia-affects-breastfeeding.aspx?fbclid=IwY2xjawEWsXxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHeiMdX_9w983Evl6BVwnvVEm3TzpD3aitLb7_vqASzFQfTLQ6ZuWHy4_Xw_aem_X-Ywwyjz7hZv4S6M7kfiAQ

For some parents, bed-sharing is the only way their baby can sleep. Rather than talking to parents about how to do it safely, we try to pretend it doesn’t exist

Yay for Medicaid-covered human donor milk!

Pittsburgh, PA - Medically vulnerable infants in Pennsylvania will have expanded access to potentially life-saving pasteurized donor human milk thanks to legislation recently passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Josh Shapiro.
