West Chester University Graduate Center
(West Chester, PA)

We hope that you will be able to join us for a joint full-day PDC, presented by the Philadelphia Section AIHA and the ASSP Philadelphia Chapter, in partnership with Colden Corporation.

"Freeze Frame: Focus on Health & Safety" is a full-day, interactive educational event, with Colden Corporation's team of highly experienced and field-tested senior consultants presenting a unique training experience. This fun, collaborative, and interactive session will have a lasting impact on the way you view health and safety compliance, and health and safety as a whole!

What's Involved

In this seminar, Colden's senior consultants use hundreds of photographs of actual health and safety (H&S) regulatory compliance issues to take participants on a virtual tour of one of the worst work environments you can imagine.

The overall goal of this presentation is to educate participants about hazard and risk identification and discuss examples of both common and uncommon compliance audit and assessment scenarios. Colden's instructor-facilitated seminar is team-based, energetic, and highly interactive.

How will this benefit me and my company?

• Improve workplace H&S hazard, risk, and compliance issue recognition skills
• Learn how to apply OSHA standards, compliance directives and letters of interpretation
• Gain a deeper understanding of regulatory compliance practices
• Obtain more knowledge about relevant standards, guidelines, and directives
• Actively work with other environmental, health and safety (EHS) professionals in a team-based learning environment

Philadelphia Section AIHA November 2013 Full-Day PDC:
"What’s New In IAQ?"

Please plan on joining us on Tuesday, November 19th at EMSL Analytical in Cinnaminson, NJ for a full-day professional development course focusing on indoor air quality.

The world of Indoor Air Quality field sampling and lab analysis is ever-changing as new guidelines, improved testing and analysis methods, and real-world findings add much to this science and use of findings for air quality improvements. This Philadelphia Section AIHA Professional Development Course will look at several interesting aspects that are current to the world of IAQ. First we will look at Legionella and the impact of the proposed new ASHRAE guidelines to prevent and control this disease. We will then look at use of lab analyses to aid insurance companies in post- fire investigations from the combustion by-products generated. The use of TO-15 sampling and analysis and as a newer tool for IAQ and odor investigations will then be explored including case studies and updates on the newest whole air sampling techniques. The consultant’s perspective will also be explored as we discuss field experiences in IAQ investigations and solutions from a national perspective. Finally we will discuss v***r intrusion as a tool for environmental site assessment including the proposed new ASTM standard as well PA/NJ environmental programs and recent case studies.

After this IAQ PDC is completed, the host for the meeting (EMSL Laboratories) will be taking smaller groups of interested attendees to lab areas that relate to Indoor Air Quality Testing. (TO-15 Lab, IH Lab, Asbestos, Microbiology, Material Sciences). These will allow for focused tours of a specific lab departments as well as a great opportunity for to see what is involved at the lab for many of analyses needed for IAQ investigations.

Please plan on joining us on Thursday, February 28th for a joint Philadelphia Section AIHA/Philadelphia Chapter ASSE meeting, being held at Maggiano’s Restaurant in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Our speakers for this morning/lunch meeting will be discussing OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) standard.

To help ensure safe and healthful workplaces, OSHA has issued the Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals standard (29 CFR 1910.119), which contains requirements for the management of hazards associated with processes using highly hazardous chemicals.

PSM is addressed in specific standards for the general and construction industries. OSHA's standard emphasizes the management of hazards associated with highly hazardous chemicals and establishes a comprehensive management program that integrates technologies, procedures, and management practices.

Our speakers will discuss the standard; implementing and maintaining compliance; and experiences within industry in managing and maintaining a PSM program.
