Sometimes the healers need healing, too. 😷🏥
LEAD was honored to pay a special visit to Presbyterian Healthcare Services' Lincoln County Medical Center during National Hospital Week to celebrate the extraordinary medical professionals, support staff and administrators who are always there, 24/7, to care for our community.

It is well-documented through research that horses make a real and lasting positive impact on the health of humans—so it seemed only fitting to bring a little "horse therapy" to our peers in the health care industry who work so hard to help us all.

Soon summer will be here, and that means one of our favorite volunteers, Brenda McPherson, will soon be back with us!

A volunteer since LEAD's earliest days, Brenda lives outside the area most of the year, but when she comes back to town in the summer months, we can always count on her invaluable assistance and gentle, generous spirit. The kids love her, and we do, too!

We are small but mighty! 💪 Did you know that with our small team of volunteers, LEAD runs more than 260 individual and group sessions with riders every year, all at low to no cost for the families we serve?

Sessions run three times per year (Spring, Summer and Fall) on Friday afternoons, all day on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. And even at that, we still have a wait list!

This is proof of something Helen Keller once said: "Alone we can do so little. Together, we can do so much."

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers and supporters for helping us deliver 260 sessions per year and counting!

When the Beach Boys sang "Help me, Rhonda," they obviously didn't know OUR Rhonda, who never needs to be asked before pitching in to lend a hand.

This National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we honor our own very special Rhonda Henry, a loyal and devoted volunteer from the very beginning.

Whether assisting riders during their sessions to helping keep our administrative paperwork organized, she is always there with a smile and a willingness to help.

This National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we want the world to know how much we cannot live without Randy Livingston! ❤️

As our FIRST volunteer and Board member, Randy is involved in almost every aspect of LEAD—from helping set the direction for our organization to working with the kids in the ring. Randy is here for EVERY session throughout the year, logging hundreds of hours in the arena and countless more behind the scenes.

Whenever we need help, need something fixed, or need some extra muscle power, Randy is ALWAYS the first to jump in to help. He is truly "our everything"!

This National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we celebrate the contributions of Savannah, LEAD's very first Junior Volunteer. 💕

Savannah first joined LEAD as a rider in our program. We quickly realized her talent and potential and invited her to serve as a Junior Volunteer where she can assist—and learn from—our adult volunteers.

Savannah is a faithful volunteer who knows everything about our therapy horses, is great with the kids in our program who look up to her as a role model, and helps newcomers learn the in's and out's of LEAD.

We love you, Savannah! You always have a special place here at LEAD!

Where would we be without our faithful volunteer, Dana Zauf?

One of our loyal long-time volunteers who has been with us since the very beginning, Dana jumps in wherever there is a need. She is as comfortable working with riders and horses in the ring as she is grabbing a hammer to help assemble furniture for our volunteers. Truly no job is too big or too small for Dana to do with great willingness and cheer.

Although we are especially proud to recognize her this month during National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we celebrate her contributions to LEAD all year long.

We're so excited to show off our brand new serving station! 🥘

Saturdays are our longest days, with sessions running from morning to evening. On Saturdays, we all share lunch together, and our new serving station will make it so much easier to serve coffee, hot chocolate and meals, with space for crockpots and a microwave.

A special thank you to our "building crew" Sabrina Miller and Dana Zauf for assembling the new furniture and to Dana for equipping us with a new microwave.

We look forward to sharing many more meals together as a LEAD family.

This National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we recognize one of our long-time and loyal volunteers, Sabrina Miller. ❤️ There is no job too big or small for Sabrina, who graciously rolls up her sleeves no matter the need. From working one-on-one with our riders during their sessions to mucking the stalls to helping install our new service station for Saturday meals, we can always count on her!
