Personal story of a back patient:
I have degenerative disc disease. And three weeks ago a surgeon had a scalpel with my name on it.
Yesterday, I cancelled the operation. Here's why.
I'm 59. The MRI showed L4-L5 disc height loss so severe I could feel my bones grinding.
"Your vertebrae have collapsed," the doctor said. "We need to operate."π
Spinal fusion. $46,000. Eight weeks recovery. No walking. π―
A 40% chance it makes it worse.π
He slid the consent forms across the desk.
I didn't sign. Because I'd read what happens after fusion.
The discs above and below absorb the extra load.
They start failing next.π
You're back in the same chair in seven years having the same conversation about the next level.
One week ago, I had found an article by a physical therapist who mapped the only way "collapsed" discs
can inflate back to life. π―π₯π₯
Here's how it all happens.
It's simple.
Your discs don't collapse from weakness. They collapse from starvation.
Spinal discs have zero blood supply. π©Έ
They survive entirely on hydraulic pressure: movement and decompression pump nutrients in,
compression squeezes waste out.
When that cycle breaks down, the disc dries out and flattens.
The vertebrae sink. And the nerve channels close.
Bone on bone isn't the beginning of the problem.
It's what happens after years of living with itβ¦
Surgery fuses the vertebrae. Eliminates the grinding. But the disc is still dead underneath.
The hydraulic cycle is still broken.
The levels above and below start starving next.
The fix isn't fusion.
It's restarting the cycle the disc has been cut off from.
How?
You need to do three things:
1. DECOMPRESS the vertebrae to recreate the space.
2. Flood the disc with the nutrients it's been starved of.
3. And reset the muscles to hold the correction permanently.
I followed this method and this is what happened πππ
Day 2: that deep, grinding ache in my lower back was gone. Not reduced. Gone.
Week 1: I sat through a two-hour drive without fixing the seat every fifteen minutes.
Week 2 : walked a mile without the bone-on-bone sensation firing with every step.
Week 3 : I called the surgeon's office and cancelled.ππ
I'm not telling you disc disease is a myth. My MRI was real. The damage was real.
But bone-on-bone grinding stops the moment you give the disc what it's been starved of.......Space, Nutrients, and a muscle release that lets your spine breathe again.
