📖 Healthy Androscoggin Featured in “Healing a Village”

Healthy Androscoggin’s Rowan McFadden and community partner Jennifer Edwards were highlighted in Mark Lefebvre’s book Healing a Village, which features the Lewiston Auburn Area Recovery Collaborative (LAARC) as a model for building recovery-ready communities.

For nearly four years, LAARC has brought partners together to strengthen overdose prevention, expand resources, and reduce stigma in Androscoggin County. 💙

🌤️ The weather may feel cooler lately, but don’t be fooled—the sun is still shining strong! August is Sun Safety Month, making it the perfect time to brush up on ways to protect your skin while enjoying summer.

Candace Labonte, NP from CMMC Family Practice has tips on staying safe in the sun:

🌞 Wear sunscreen (SPF 30+ broad spectrum) and reapply every 2 hours—or more often if swimming or sweating.
👒 Cover up with long sleeves, wide-brimmed hats, and seek shade during peak UV hours (10 a.m.–4 p.m.).
🚗 Don’t forget the easy-to-miss spots: the tops of your ears, the backs of your hands, and even the side of your body facing the sun while driving.
🔎 Keep an eye on your skin. If you notice spots that are changing, bleeding, or have irregular borders, make an appointment to get checked.

Enjoy the sunshine safely—it’s all about balance! 💛

Share this post with your friends a family!

🫶 Honoring Dr. Nicholette Erickson: A Legacy of Love and Healing

After more than 30 extraordinary years, Dr. Nicholette Erickson is retiring, leaving behind an indelible mark on the lives of countless cancer patients and families across central and western Maine.

As a beloved medical oncologist with Central Maine Healthcare and New England Cancer Specialists, Dr. Erickson has been more than a physician — she has been a steadfast advocate, a source of hope, and a comforting presence during life’s most difficult journeys. Her expertise and empathy have touched generations, and her influence will resonate in our community for years to come.

In recognition of her remarkable career and the countless lives she has uplifted, we are proud to announce the 𝗗𝗿. 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱 — supporting cancer patients and their families right here in our region.

Dr. Erickson herself quietly gave to this fund long before it bore her name — making a donation in honor of each patient who lost their battle with cancer. Now, it is our turn to honor her.
