Let food be thy medicine! No matter how much exercise or other healthy measures one takes, food will always tell the tale of where your health is at. I follow the golden rule, if it comes from the earth, eat it. If it comes from a box, rethink it.

If you’re like most people, you hold your breath throughout the day without even realizing it. We take longer inhales than exhales. This can actually increase your stress and anxiety.

4-7–8 breath helps break the fight or flight response, helping to calm the nervous system and control emotional responses. It decreases your heart rate and blood pressure, putting your body in a state of relaxation!

How to:
⭐️Begin with an audible exhale, releasing all tension. (make a “whooshing” sound)

⭐️With mouth closed and tongue gently touching the roof of your mouth, take a deep breath in through your nose while mentally counting to four.

⭐️Hold breath for a count of 7

⭐️SLOWLY exhale through your mouth, keeping lips pursed, to a count of 8. (you should hear that “whooshing” sound again.

⭐️Repeat this process for 4 cycles.

You can practice this, anytime, anywhere – it only takes a couple of minutes!

✨✨Just try 4 cycles and see how you feel✨✨

⭐️Keep yourself in a seated position with your back straight, or if you are trying to sleep, you can do it in bed!

⭐️The more you do this, the better you’ll get, and your body will begin to incorporate it into your stress response 💜

“ I can’t sit that long”
“ I can’t stop my thoughts”
“ I don’t have time”

These are some of the responses I get when I ask someone if they meditate. Is this you?

Have you ever pulled into a parking lot and couldn’t remember how you got there? Or folded laundry, watched TV and the kids all the same time?

It seems we require constant stimulation anymore, but our minds tend to have poorer concentration levels and higher stress levels. We tend to function on auto pilot and become “mindless”. Experiences are lost due to distractions.

A meditation practice is a great tool to promote calmness, inner stability, compassion, and help reduce reactive behavior . Meditation is not about controlling your thoughts, but stopping your thoughts from controlling you; it’s the practice of cultivating conscious awareness of our thoughts without judging the experience.

There are MANY types of meditation:

1. walking meditation – immerse your senses in the life that surround you
2. Physical exercise – movement -based exercise, such as tai chi, yoga, or Qi gong
3. Guided imagery
4. Guided body scan
5. Silent meditation
6. Sound healing – love! If you haven’t tried this, you must!
7. Mantra meditation – my go to!

Meditation isn’t just about spending a few minutes being calm, it’s about training our attention; it’s about observing thoughts and not getting lost in them 💜

Today is the official first day of Spring. Don't Pull that Dandelion! This sunny flower is one of the first spring foods for the bees. Dandelions deserve a gold medal, not scorn. They're one of the first links in that magical chain of events bringing much of our food to our tables. If bees survive the winter, they look to dandelions and other wildflowers for nutrition - so they can begin the work of pollinating our fruits and vegetables. As you know, the bees are in a pickle right now. Their population is dwindling. Let's not kill off anything that helps the bees. And please, absolutely stay away from using synthetic herbicides like Roundup to kill the dandelions. These weedkillers are also directly toxic to the bees and other beneficial insects.

Some time ago, my own health problems lead me to explore India's traditional health system of Ayurveda, as well as its sister science of yoga. I fell in love with both! Ayurveda is based on the belief that health can only be achieved through a delicate balance of mind, body & spirit. My passion is in helping others discover their own strengths and new habits, and teaching how to interpret signs & symptoms of imbalance. Ayurveda can then help address these imbalances so you can optimize your own health on a continual basis.
There is no one size fits all in Ayurveda. When you determine your unique doshic constitution, you can begin to bring your life into greater harmony & health
