Rabies is a zoonotic infection that can spread from animals to humans, making rabies vaccination for dogs crucial for protecting both pets and people. Infected animals almost always die, with only a few rare survival cases, often linked to minimal virus exposure.
Most infected animals are euthanized to safeguard human and animal health. Vaccination has significantly reduced rabies cases in domestic dogs, with around 60 to 70 dogs and 250 cats reported rabid annually, primarily among unvaccinated pets.
If a dog encounters a possibly rabid animal, a booster shot may be administered, even if vaccinations are current.
We all must contribute to preventing rabies and protecting our pets and loved ones.
