one of the reasons reiki is such a profound practice is because it asks you to sit in the sacredness of stillness and to be present with yourself while also receiving love, kindness and support from your practitioner.

there is no running away or avoidance from what is alive inside of you. all of it is welcome. you taste your truth instead of just swallowing it down.

there is compassionate witnessing and an allowance for what is, what was, and what will be.

there is a meeting with your internal longing, a moment for all your emotions to arise without staying in motion towards some idea of forward, a freedom to face your fears and feelings with honor and respect.

you are beholding yourself and being held. both. at the same time.

reiki asks you to be gentle with yourself, to get curious about the signals of your body, and to honor your nature

to set down your identities and achievements and to-do lists and project management and chores and work and the illusion of keeping it all together just long enough to enter the here and now.

to turn a minute into a moment..to expand beyond time..to rest. it is heartbreaking to me how revolutionary this kind of self-care has become, how ancient wisdom and wellness have been framed as trivial woo-woo rather than radically necessary.

you know how sometimes we are struck with crisis, and maybe if we are lucky everything stops for a moment, but then just like that everyone else returns to their normal that existed before you became pregnant with grief and all too soon you are expected to bounce back to the way you were before you were devastated by your world being set on fire? you know how painful and suffocating that belief feels?

reiki is a reverent relief from that.
