The dream of the Rescue Ranch was born after working on a hoarding case in August of 2011. That case involved 35 dogs (Bostons, Pugs, & “Buggs”). It took the Rescues just 6 days to coordinate transportation and foster homes for all the dogs. The dogs had to wait in a non climate controlled crowded animal control facility packed 6-8 dogs per kennel. None of these dogs had ever had any vaccinations, they were hairless from demodex mange, covered in fleas, and very ill. There were about 5 nursing moms with their babies as well. Six days was too long for them wait in animal control, and more than half contracted Parvo and were too ill to fight it off and died. Since then we have worked with quite a few animal hoarding and cruelty cases and breeder “dumps” often with similar results. Boston Terriers cannot maintain their body temperature well with their short noses, so a stay in a non air conditioned shelter in the heat of a southern summer is a death sentence, causing heat stroke and seizures. The dogs involved in these cases have often never been outdoors, they have had no vaccinations, they have medical issues that need immediate attention and animal control isn’t a safe place for them. Not to mention that animal control is ALWAYS full and often these dogs are subject to be euthanized immediately. Rescue is often willing to take them in, but where do you put 35 dogs at one time while you coordinate transport & foster homes? We realized we needed to do something! We had to do more than just foster, and raise awareness, and get our foster dogs adopted out. So, we started looking for land where we could build a facility to be an emergency short term shelter. In October of 2012 we found the site of the “The Rescue Ranch”. It’s 8 acres in Rutledge GA. We renovated the farm house on the property where Renee and I live and started the shelter building in August. The building has 17 indoor kennels each with their own outdoor run, a dog wash room and laundry room, storage room, restroom, office, and veterinary exam room. It also has two large fenced yards one for outdoor group play and smaller space for meet and greets with potential adopters. There is also a memorial garden for pets that have passed. The dream is evolving once again as we start Rescue Ranch Pups and have received our own 501(c)3 non profit organization status. We seek to be a positive force in animal rescue focusing on Boston Terriers & other short nosed breeds in need. The mission of Rescue Ranch Pups is to get these dogs into safety, make them well and whole, and find loving forever homes.

We like to paw it forward and help. Recently we received several donations in honor of Gina Belcher who loves Bostons and the work that we do at the Rescue Ranch. We thought it fitting that we help with some of the care of Josie.

Josie, a Rescue Ranch alumni, started having what appeared to be spinal/ neurological difficulties a few weeks ago. She was also found to have Gallbladder issues and then an infected nail. The poor baby and her family couldn’t catch be a break.

Today she went to Main Street Vet for her very first chiropractic appointment. She did great and is signed up to have 4 visits to start with and then assess if anymore are needed.

She has an appointment with the Neurologist at Auburn in Alabama on December 11th at 10 Am. She had an issue with her Gallbladder which finally seems to have resolved. We will update further when we have more information. Thanks for all ongoing prayers and support.

❤️ November is Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month! ❤️
It's a time to celebrate and promote the adoption of senior pets. This month aims to raise awareness about the many senior animals in shelters and the importance of adopting a senior pet. It is a sad fact that older pets are often the last to be adopted.

Today we are featuring ➡️TONY⬅️ as our senior pet. He lost his home when his owner passed. Fortunately, he found his way to Mostly Mutts and is in a wonderful foster home.

From Tony and his foster: When describing my super sweet personality, my foster says I am ‘an absolute lovebug’ to all people I’ve met while with them. I’m pretty much their shadow throughout the day and – though I do some vocalizing when separated from my people, I’ve never been destructive in my foster home. I would like a stay-at-home or work-from-home family member like I have in my foster home to be my happiest. A happy guy that doesn't seem to let anything break my stride, I’ll occasionally show a pep in my step and channel my playful side, but I mostly just want to collect the love. Since I don’t hear, I’ll need my family to make sure I’m kept safe from danger that I would otherwise hear, and my sight is a bit limited, though I do still see out of my remaining eye pretty well – over time that may or may not diminish. / My energy level is 3-5.

Tony is a Boston Terrier; he is 13 years old and 27 pounds. He is deaf and has limited vision. His adoption fee is $100, and we are located in Kennesaw, GA. Will you be Tony's special angel? Adoption applications and additional information at mostlymutts.org.
