It’s very common to notice changes in your big O after a hysterectomy or during menopause. Shifts in estrogen and testosterone levels can play a role.

If you’re finding it harder to reach an O, it’s not something you just have to accept. There are evidence-based options that can help.

Traditionally, screening for bone density only happens when women reach their 60s. At Maze, we often see women in their mid to late 40s exhibiting signs of osteopenia or lower than normal bone density.

Having your bone density checked early gives us more options to help reverse or at least slow the effects of osteopenia and can also influence decisions like going on hormone replacement therapy.

Ask the Experts: Ep. 1

How does the female body change with age?

As women enter perimenopause and menopause, shifting hormones can impact how they feel day to day, alter body composition, and change how their bodies respond to workouts.

Understanding and staying on top of these changes is key. It’s a core part of how we approach health, performance, and longevity at Maze.

“As women in midlife, we cannot rely solely on the scale as an indicator of overall health.”

The DEXA Body Composition Scan is the most precise and medically validated way to measure body fat, muscle mass, visceral fat, and bone health. DEXA gives you a true picture of your body’s composition and the biomarkers that impact performance, longevity, and disease risk.

Estrogen HRT isn’t the danger it was once made out to be. Old studies created fear around cancer, heart attacks, and strokes, but newer data tells a very different story.

HRT helps prevent osteoporosis, supports vaginal health, and can greatly improve quality of life.

Why are some practitioners hesitant to prescribe testosterone?

In our experience, we see a clear link between raising low hormone levels and strengthening a woman’s libido, her ability to become aroused, and the quality of her O. Women for whom low hormones play a significant role in their dysfunction can benefit greatly from hormone therapy and may have a hard time being helped without them.

With any therapy or treatment, there are both benefits and risks. Hormone therapy is no different. Our team will take the time to explain each of them to you thoroughly. Should you decide on hormone therapy, we’ll then monitor you on an ongoing basis to make sure levels are comfortable and effective for your individual case, and that you’re not having any side effects. We’ll even provide guidance to you every step of the way within the context of your lifestyle and current relationship.
