Rye Association for the Handicapped The Rye Association for the Handicapped is an organization dedicated to adults with permanent disabilities. Who we are: In 1963 at the urging of Kate L.

Our mission is to offer support and to enrich their quality of life. Our members benefit from an excellent swim program that includes therapeutic and recreational swimming as well as an exercise session with a "Y" instructor. Year round, the Rye YMCA makes a pool available for one hour on Monday and Friday mornings followed by a coffee and refreshment Social Hour. Other recreational activities we offer include Picnic, Gala Holiday Party, Volunteer Luncheon, Theater Party. Loree, Mayor H. Clay Johnson of Rye, NY, formed the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped. Rye was the second city in New York State to appoint such a committee. In 1968 it became a non-profit corporation, The Rye Association for the Handicapped.
