#86 Create a “junk journal” or “creative journal”

Okay friends…. You need to hear me out and try this. No joke. And also, I need your help!! Pretty please! I need THEME ideas! Read on for more info! (Or scroll to the last paragraph. I won’t be upset 😛)

So, through my exploring of the ever popular TikTok (gotta keep up with what my students talk about lol) I found a side of TikTok I’m quite a fan of. Crafting and journaling TikTok. While here I found this trend that some refer to as “junk journals” and others as “creative journaling”. Basically, it is a mindless form of crafting/art in which you just design aesthetically pleasing (to you) pages in a journal. No writing- unless you want to add some journaling. No pictures- unless you want to add some. I mean, there really are no rules, but the goal is that it’s meditative and relaxing while getting to express your artsy/crafty side. Kind of reminds me of the joy found in our old sticker books, and the calm that adult coloring books are meant to bring.

I knew I wanted to try it right away as I love scrapbooking stuff and have soooooo much, but honestly, scrapbooking can get overwhelming to me. I love making specific scrapbooks (like my wedding one which was a blast to do) because they have a theme and are finite. They end. But to randomly scrapbook life events, I personally just never see it ending and that bothers me lol and it gets expensive!

So anywho, I started my first journal tonight and I have to tell you… I’m obsessed. I splurged on this leather bound journal (flexible cover is key as the journal gets big and fat), and I can not tell you how much fun it was. For realz. To just layer things that maybe go together. No pictures to try and pick from or match designs to. No writing. No nothing.

I needed something like this in my life more than you’ll ever know. A completely stress free hobby. I encourage y’all to try!

Here’s the help part!! Each page has a theme of some kind. I chose to use my letter stamps to put the theme title somewhere on the page. I need themes!! So far I’m thinking cats, christmas, spring, pink, floral, books as some of my themes! But give me some more! Literally anything works!! I’m going to put them in a jar and pull them out when I’m ready to do a new page! They can be colors, animals, holidays, words, places, actions… the possibilities are endless!
