A great act of service by our colleagues at Heffnerโ€™s!

Today, members of Red Lion Elks delivered hundreds of worn flags for dignified retirement. Since 1997, in compliance with the United States Flag Code and with written permission from the Pennsylvania DEP, Heffner Crematory & Funeral Chapels has been cremating retired American flags. Out of respect for Veterans and the flag they defended, the staff at Heffnerโ€™s has been honored to contribute time and effort to this project, respectfully retiring tens of thousands of cremated American flags and then interring the cremated remains of the flags in a dignified manner. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We had to retire our American Flag ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ this weekend; it was torn from catching on a tree limb. We have temporarily replaced it with an American flag that celebrates our nations 250th anniversary with an image of George Washington and his horse and the Pledge of Allegiance written out in cursive.
Our torn flag was retired with the same dignity as a new one, folded as well as could be of what remains and it will burned in accordance with State Flag Code.

Check out these headstones in Gettysburg for American Revolutionary soldiers!

Tim Smith, of Gettysburg History, posted a short video about Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the Lower Marsh Creek Cemetery outside of Gettysburg. This 5-minute video is from his YouTube series "Monuments Monday: The Gettysburg Monuments You Haven't Heard of". In this segment, titled "Revolutionary War Edition", Tim highlights some local men who fought in the American Revolution and mentions 4 cemeteries, like this one, that have plaques commemorating the names of those who fought with General George Washington.
After Tim points out the war record at the grave of Thomas Reid, he moves to the tombstone of Rev. Alexander Dobbin and mentions that his 1776 house, along with the United States of America, is celebrating its semiquincentennial (250th) year anniversary! Thanks Tim! We love all your interesting history!
