July is UV Safety Month, and for good reason! The summer sun can be harsh, and it’s essential to take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Loring Hospital’s Safety Committee celebrated Patient Safety Awareness Week by encouraging staff to create a poster that included information on how we can all contribute to a safer healthcare environment. Thank you to our Safety Committee for keeping patient safety at the forefront of all we do each and every day, and congrats to Kalyn Johnson, who was chosen as the winner. Topics included malignant hyperthermia, outdoor plant safety, germs, fall prevention, infection control amid hospital construction, and blood spill.

Also as part of the week, the Safety Committee recognized Loring professionals who identified ways to prevent potential errors and hazards. The Great Catch award was presented to Molly Sporrer, who identified a better flow within the computer system; and Nettie Blessington, who maintained Loring’s main entrance to ensure the safety of patients upon entering the hospital.

Congratulations to our Employee of the Month, Rachel Werkmeister, who serves as Loring Hospital’s clinical informatics specialist!

A portion of the nomination submission read: “Rachel took on a brand new role with informatics and has been excellent taking on new projects and working side-by-side with staff. She is always smiling, helpful, and offering ideas and solutions. We’re so glad she came to Loring!”
