💚Sac County Public Health is wearing GREEN for Mental Health Awareness Month!💚
Mental health matters every day and wearing green is a simple way to show support, spread awareness, and remind others that they are not alone. The remainder of this month we encourage everyone to take time to check in on themselves, support loved ones and help break the stigma surrounding mental health.
Together we can create a community where it's okay to talk about mental health and ask for help when needed.💚

Information only! At this time, there is NO immediate threat to the public.

Hantavirus is a sickness that comes from rodent droppings and urine--most strains do not go from people to people but only from animals to people. The strain from the cruise ship does go from people to people but you need to be in a confined space to get it from someone else.

Global public health officials have been working hard to contain this sickness from the cruise ship. While there are people going to Omaha--it is because they have a special set up there to help during major sicknesses like this (previously this location was even used for Ebola!).

So, there is no threat to the public and you do not need to change any of your plans if you are planning to go to Omaha in the near future. Public Health officials are working hard to contain the virus within the Omaha facility at this time.

With the potential for severe weather on the forecast for this evening, we want to take a moment to refresh everyone on the outdoor sirens.

- The sirens are activated for any potentially damaging weather conditions - tornado, high winds (70+ MPH), and potentially large hail.
- They are activated at the request of the NWS and/or local law enforcement and fire departments serving as storm spotters
- THERE IS NO ALL-CLEAR SIGNAL! The sirens will sound for the duration of the threat

And most importantly - the sirens are an outdoor warning system only - they are not intended or guaranteed to alert you inside your home or place of employment. You should always have an additional method to recieve alerts - local television stations, local FM radio, NOAA radio, or a mobile device with Wireless Emergency Alerts activated and/or trusted apps in use.

Stay informed, and stay safe!
