Lyme disease is not the only tick-borne illness impacting Mainers. According to the Maine CDC, there have been three cases of the sometimes deadly Powassan virus in the state this year. NEWS CENTER Maine reported on a study at the MaineHealth Institute for Research investigating which animal species are helping it spread.

Scientists are trying to determine if shrews and voles are helping spread the potentially deadly tickborne illness.

Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latino and Hispanic communities. Hispanic Heritage Month 2024 will is Sunday, September 15 through Tuesday, October 15. The month commemorates how those communities have influenced and contributed to American society at large.

This month is a time for honoring the achievements of Deaf individuals, raising awareness about Deaf culture, and educating the hearing community about ways of eliminating barriers to communication with those who are deaf or hard of hearing (HoH). MaineHealth Maine Medical Center has a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Patient & Family Advisory Council (DHH-PFAC), that is one of just a few in the nation.

We are proud to share that the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation has awarded MaineHealth Care at Home $30,000 for the purpose of support equitable and accessible home health care services for Maine residents!

As a legacy grantee of the Foundation, MHCAH is fortunate to benefit from a long-standing relationship with the Foundation that began during the life of Mrs. Sewall. Over the years, the Foundation has supported work at the agency involving charity care, telehealth, and other programs.
