August is National Breastfeeding Month. 2025’s theme is Forward Together: “This year’s theme centers unity, solidarity, and hope, and celebrates the strength and determination of the organizations and advocates committed to advancing policy, systems, and environmental change in the First Food field and improving access to human milk.”
Additionally, each week going into September has a different theme and focus Cultural and Social observances:
August 1 - 7: World Breastfeeding Week - Prioritize Breastfeeding: Creating Sustainable Support Systems ,
Aug 8 - 14: Indigenous Milk Medicine Week - Unapologetically Indigenous: Love, Landback, and Liberation ,
Aug 15 - 21: Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week - Diverse Voices, One Vision ,
Aug 25 - 31: Black Breastfeeding Week - Boots On The Ground: Rooted In Breastfeeding Success, Grounded in Community Work ,
September 8- 14: Semana de La Lactancia Latina - Territory of the heart - Breastfeeding without Borders
Sept 16 - 22: Deaf & Hard of Hearing Breastfeeding Week - Close the Gap Bridge the Divide: Establish Breastfeeding Support Access
