How does Laser Light Heal?

A low-level laser supplies energy to the body through non-thermal photons of light (photons). When these photons pe*****te deeply into the skin, they optimize the immune responses of our blood. This, in turn, promotes decreased inflammation, increased tissue and bone repair, stimulates nerve function, and promotes faster wound healing and clot formation. This produces a quicker healing process and gets you back to normal activities in less time.

Driving In Heavy Fog

Dense fog can create dangerous road conditions, especially if combined with other severe weather conditions. We recommend that the safest thing is to pull into a parking area until the fog clears. It's never ideal to drive in dense or heavy fog.

Here are Ten Tips when you are driving on a foggy night:
1) Minimize distractions. Silence your cell phone and the stereo. Put distractions like your cell phone in a place where you won’t be tempted to reach for them while driving, like the glove compartment.
2) Reduce your speed. Because you can't see the road or other vehicles, a low speed can help you react safely.
3) Roll down your window. This allows you to listen to cars and emergency vehicles.
4) Use roadside reflectors as a guide. The markings can help you navigate twists and turns. Use the right edge of the road as a guide. Enables you to stay in your lane and not “drift” into the middle lane.
5) Turn off cruise control. This will maximize your control of your vehicle.
6) Use windshield wipers and defrosters. These will help limit excess moisture on the window and reduce glare.
7) Drive with low beams and fog lights. High beams/brights can worsen visibility because they reflect off the fog.
8) Increase your following distance from other cars to ensure you have the proper time to respond to any obstacles. A good rule of thumb is to increase your count distance by at least 5 seconds instead of the usual 2 seconds behind another vehicle.
9) Beware of animals on the road. The lowered visibility in dense fog means less time for you to see them and for them to see you.
10) If you need to pull over to a safe area due to dense fog, use your turn signal, pull away from the road, and turn on your hazard lights.

Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome in infants)

A flat spot on the head usually is the result of an infant spending too much time in one position, which causes the bones of their skull to flatten. Left untreated, this can become permanent and can affect facial features as well, leading to asymmetry.

Plagiocephaly can also be a result of torticollis, which is a shortening of muscles in the neck. Torticollis can be treated by a physical therapist and should be brought to your doctor’s attention if you notice your baby’s head is always tilted or turned consistently to the same side.

Every baby’s head is a bit asymmetrical after birth, but should be able to round itself by about 6 weeks after birth. For mild cases, treatment involves alternating sleep positions and some strengthening exercises instructed by a physical therapist. Tummy time is encouraged while awake, and the infant's time on the infant’s back, other than when sleeping. Also, limit the infant’s time spent in swings, bouncy seats, or car seats.

At all times, I recommend informing the child’s pediatrician and taking pictures to document any changes. With early intervention, the skull can be remolded. However, if the flattened area is significant, a referral to a specialist is warranted to decide if a cranial remolding helmet or band should be prescribed.

While the term plagiocephaly sounds ominous, the treatment is very effective, and most children fully recover. When in doubt, always seek the help of a medical professional.

Safe Pain Management

The CDC recommends safer alternatives like physical therapy to manage pain. Avoid addictive Opioids. Choose physical therapy for safe pain management. No one wants to live in pain. But no one should put their health at risk to be pain-free.

Doctor-prescribed opioids are appropriate in some cases, but they just mask the pain, and opioid risks include depression, overdose, and addiction, plus withdrawal symptoms when stopping use.

That's why the CDC recommends safer alternatives like physical therapy to manage pain. Physical therapists treat pain through movement, hands-on care, and patient education, and by increasing physical activity, you can also reduce your risk of other chronic diseases.

Occupational Therapy

We help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities; helping people recovering from injury regain skills, and providing support for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.

Our therapists will use purposeful activities or interventions to achieve functional outcomes to develop, sustain, or restore the highest possible level of independence for each individual.

Speech Therapy for Teens Who Stutter

It is difficult to provide a concise overview of speech therapy for teens who stutter, for every teen is different, and every teen has different needs from treatment. In general, though, it is fair to say that treatment for teens who stutter may involve several components, each aimed at the overall goal of helping the speaker develop effective communication abilities.

Is it time to change your Air Filter?

Generally, most air filter manufacturers and HVAC companies recommend changing your air filter every 90 days, or 3 months. If you do this on the first day of each season, you will always remember when to change your filter.

In the Winter, we tend to raise the thermostat and use our heater to stay warm on those chilly days. Enjoy those rainy days indoors with cleaner air when you change your air filter today.
