Again, greed...we can do better. 😞
It’s a sad day when news like this doesn’t even surprise you any more.
PBMs continue to play by their own rules all while patients, taxpayers, and independent pharmacies suffer. You think a $285 million penalty is going to hurt CVS? When you’re #5 on the Fortune500 list and have an annual revenue of $372.8 BILLION, somehow I doubt it.
You may see this and wonder why you should care and how it affects you. When PBMs are allowed to operate unchecked like they have for years, they will continue to find new ways to steal from us all. Ten years ago they did it through DIR fees. Today they do it through underwater payments and steering patients to the pharmacies they own so that they can pay themselves more than they’d pay any other pharmacy. When they do this, it forces other pharmacies to close, leaving patients like you without the access to care that we all deserve. And in small town America, like the place I love and call home, that loss of care will be detrimental to thousands of people. People will be sicker and their care will be worse.
Why do we let these corporate bullies control our healthcare system? When will the madness end?
Enough is enough.
