Sometimes work doesn’t go as expected. We plan our sessions with our kids in mind and in a second the plan goes out the window. We had two back to back articulation sessions that had to be moved because one of our kids was having a rough morning and would not step into his classroom, so we pulled him into the speech room and worked on getting him regulated. As speech therapists a big part of our job is helping our kids feel supported as a whole, not just with their language or speech goals. This is why rapport building is so important with kids and their families; understanding sessions are more than just collecting data.

A veces el trabajo no sale como se esperaba. Planificamos nuestras sesiones pensando en nuestros hijos y en un segundo el plan se esfuma. Tuvimos dos sesiones de articulación consecutivas que tuvieron que cambiarse porque uno de nuestros hijos estaba teniendo una mañana difícil y no entraba a su salón de clases, así que lo llevamos a la sala de oratoria y trabajamos para regularlo. Como terapeutas del habla, una gran parte de nuestro trabajo es ayudar a nuestros niños a sentirse apoyados en su totalidad, no solo con sus objetivos de lenguaje o habla. Esta es la razón por la que es tan importante establecer una relación con los niños y sus familias; Las sesiones de comprensión son más que solo recopilar datos.

It's important to remember not all individuals with Autism are the same; these are only a few sign and symptoms we look for as areas of concern.
