We don't need Women's History Month to pay homage to Anarcha, Betsey, and Lucy who were the Godmothers in advancing maternal health and OB care in the 1800's. Their contribution was repressed from history but also their roles as midwives and nurses to other women who also were in bo***ge. Culturally responsive maternal health supports and events like the 5th Annual Black Baby Doll Drive and Symposium are crucial Sacramento County Black Infant Health Black Child Legacy Campaign

In our last zine we brought to the legislative office we delve here at CLAP on the importance of having solid support that understands the realities of why Black women opt out of wellness services because of the systemic inequities. We are worthy! & so deserving of adequate humane wellness and even safety support without "workarounds" or using "alternatives" to survive daily.

Some us are surviving day in and day out with limited choices and options. Being marginalized and/or in poverty has nothing to do with deviancy or unworthiness. It has everything to do with the false power of privilege-Find resources in your Sactown neighborhood or ways to get involved locally: https://clapsac.com/clap-community-corner?fbclid=IwY2xjawQ5km9leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETEzSjVlMkJTSVZmWjlydnFkc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhdD53-pllzQV2q8qbLHNozBuP1e-dR3JDVWnkU0eXR7GABDByG-A1FBv3sj_aem_QPNe5vC9-Pjd7hwQ7slh2g

Knowing your history is your birthright. Now more than ever preserving and saving your record or major events is crucial. This could be in family, personal, or community. If you are interested in in archiving or preserving community events check out how to get started with first steps. We also have included other free webinars in our CLAP Weekly's throughout the years.

It’s Preservation Week, and we wanted to remind you of a few basics to care for your personal and family history!

The most important thing to do in preservation is to take the first step! Learn what types of materials you have that need to be preserved, and then follow these guidelines laid out by the American Library Association.

"Now when I ponder the silences, the voices that are not heard, the voices of those wounded and/or oppressed individuals who do not speak or write, I contemplate the acts of persecution, torture—the terrorism that breaks spirits, that makes creativity impossible. I write these words to bear witness to the primacy of resistance struggle in any situation of domination (even within family life); "-Bell Hooks (1986) 's History Month Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture

A groundbreaking feminist theorist, cultural critic, and writer, bell hooks profoundly shaped contemporary conversations about the intersection of race, gender, class, and love.

Raised in segregated Kentucky and educated at Stanford University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and UC Santa Cruz, she emerged as a voice of radical Black feminism during and beyond the civil rights era.

hooks authored over 30 influential books, most notably “Ain’t I a Woman?: Black Women and Feminism” and “All about love: New Visions.”

“It is obvious that many women have appropriated feminism to serve their own ends, especially those White women who have been at the forefront of the movement; but rather than resigning myself to this appropriation I choose to re-appropriate the term ‘feminism’, to focus on the fact that to be ‘feminist’ in any authentic sense of the term is to want for all people, female and male, liberation from sexist role patterns, domination, and oppression.”
—bell hooks, “Ain’t I A Woman: Black Women and Feminism”, 1981
