At the age of 21, Tyson was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. Soon after, he faced a second devastating diagnosis - secondary AML leukemia. Through it all, Tyson embodied resilience, humor, heart, and something even more: compassion. He saw beyond his own challenges and paid close attention to the patients and families around him. He noticed parents sleeping in chairs because they couldn’t afford lodging, families juggling long commutes, and children with far fewer comforts than he had.
Tyson shared with his family that when he got better, he wanted to create something that would help ease the burdens he saw other families enduring. He imagined a fund that would cover the practical things like gas cards, food, and lodging so families could stand by their children without worrying about the cost.
Tyson never got the chance to bring that dream to life during his lifetime. He passed away in 2024. But his vision did not. To honor Tyson’s heart, courage, and unwavering desire to uplift others, the Duncan family created the Tyson H. Duncan Unbreakable Fund at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. UC Davis Health
