New Year’s Eve Online Meditation
Wednesday, December 31, 11:30 p.m. (Pacific Time)

Join us for a special meditation led by an SRF monastic to bring in the New Year. The meditation will be held in person at the SRF San Diego Temple and also livestreamed worldwide.

Paramahansa Yogananda instituted the practice of ushering in the New Year with a special meditation on the night of December 31 from 11:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. Following this tradition, congregations at SRF temples as well as many individual devotees meditate at that time.

“Visualize the whole universe as far as you can mentally picture it — above, beneath, to the right, to the left, and all around you. Just as your consciousness pervades your whole body, the consciousness of Christ is equally present throughout the cosmos — in every tree and plant, in every bird and animal, in all human beings…. Saturate yourself with that consciousness.” — Paramahansa Yogananda in “Solving the Mystery of Life”

"There is no instrument other than deep meditation that can detect the presence of that almighty Grace within. Still the body, withdraw energy from the senses into the brain, calm the heart: Christ will be there; you will feel the divine joy of the Infinite Christ."

On December 27, 1936, after his return to America from traveling to his beloved homeland of India, Paramahansa Yogananda received a surprise gift. His devoted student James J. Lynn (who was later known by the monastic name Rajarsi Janakananda), presented Yogananda with a hermitage and estate in Encinitas, California.

Here Yogananda would work on his spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi,” and the Encinitas Ashram Center, with its beautiful seaside hermitage and meditation gardens, would become a place of pilgrimage for seekers worldwide. After Paramahansa Yogananda’s passing in 1952, Rajarsi Janakananda became the second president of Self-Realization Fellowship.
