I would skip out on dinner invites, movie dates, and hanging out with my family just so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat unhealthy food, or in order to go to the gym. I missed out on so many memories, and in the end it wasn't worth it.

It's okay to prioritize your health and fitness, but balance is the key.

Ha! If you find a form of exercise you love, you won't look for excuses not to do it ;)

We seem to think that the mark of a great workout is its ability to make you puke, and its effectiveness is measured by how sore you feel the next day.

That's a misconception. The mark of a great workout is one which safely gets you closer to your goals. Whether you are sore is irrelevant, and there is never a need to puke.

Are you one of those people carrying around giant jugs of water to make sure you drink at least the recommended 8 ounces of water per day? According to this scientist, it's not necessary.

Most of us have spent our lives feeling pressured by the notion that we need to drink at least eight glasses of water a day in order to avoid dehydration and stay healthy. But according to American paediatrician Aaron E. Caroll from Indiana...

I agree 100%. I highly recommend that you follow Go Kaleo. She looks at scientific research and findings (rather than what is trending), to give you the most scientifically sound nutrition information.

I will try to stick to only posting about fitness from now on, so go "like" Go Kaleo's page!

"The high priestesses of this new religion are a group of young, attractive women who amass hundreds of thousands of followers online as more and more people turn to them for guidance. Essentially recipe bloggers, they are becoming revered for telling us what to eat and what not to eat. In an age of confusion, they seem to offer a path."

The supermarket aisle has become a confusing place. It used to be full of recognisable items like cheese and butter; now you find yourself bamboozled by all manner of odd… Read more

Who comes up with this? Falling can cause injury; puking can mean you're pushing too hard; blood and pain are not good signs. It's perfectly okay to quit sometimes!

Be VERY critical of the fitness and nutrition advice you find on social media so as to not fall into the trap of feeling guilty when you don't get the results promised. Take this image for example. First of all, there's no such thing as "toning;" there is only fat loss (through nutrition) and muscle building (through weight training and nutrition), which MAY result in a "tighter" feeling body (but not for all bodies).

Secondly, you can't lose fat and build muscle ("tone") in 5 minutes. Even if you did the suggested workout for 5 minutes a day, 7 days a week, you still have to account for nutrition. And 5 minutes a day is really not going to make a difference for a long time in terms of building lean thigh muscle.

Lastly, that photo is photoshopped - check out the flawless skin - so you may never look like that, because, well, it's artificial. Im sure the woman looks great without the photoshop (and she's clearly fit), so their need to photoshop her body means that she wasn't good enough as she is for their ad. Shame on the business for trying to convince you that you can achieve this photoshopped body in 5 minutes a day.

Be a critical thinker. Use science as your bases for fitness and nutrition decisions. Do your research.
