🌊 Thank You for Joining Us on the Bay 🌊

This past Sunday, we had the privilege of hosting The NAIAD Experience: Compassion on the Water - an unforgettable morning spent honoring life and learning about the dignified sea scattering tributes available to families who choose cremation.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible community partners who joined us:

Together, we shared a peaceful sail aboard Neptune Society’s custom-designed vessel, the NAIAD, and witnessed the care, compassion, and reverence behind every detail of the experience. From the early morning coffee to the final farewell on the water, it was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. 💜

Why Do People Choose Cremation?

The decision to choose cremation is deeply personal and often shaped by many meaningful reasons. For some, it offers emotional simplicity. For others, it’s a matter of affordability or environmental values.

Cremation also provides flexibility, giving families more time and options to plan a meaningful tribute.

Whatever the reason, we’re here to support your choices with care, respect, and guidance every step of the way.

🕯️ Funeral Fact Friday 🕯️

The idea of burying the deceased 6 feet deep began in the 1660s during the London plague, when officials believed deeper graves would help prevent the spread of disease.

Today, however, most states simply require at least 18 inches of soil above the casket—meaning most graves are only about 4 feet deep, not six.

As times and knowledge evolve, so do the traditions that shape how we honor those we’ve lost.

At Dignity Memorial, we believe every detail matters. That’s why we’re here to help you plan a Celebration of Life that honors the little things that made your loved one unforgettable.

💛 Today is National Cheer Up the Lonely Day 💛

Loneliness can come in many forms, but grief often makes it feel even heavier. Whether someone is grieving a recent loss or carrying the quiet ache of a long-passed loved one, they may be navigating the world with a heavy heart and sometimes in silence.

Grief can often feel isolating, especially for children who may not have the words to express their pain. If a child or teen in your life is feeling alone after a loss, know that there are resources available to help them navigate these difficult emotions.

The National Alliance for Children’s Grief offers supportive tools designed specifically for families and caregivers to better understand and meet the needs of grieving young people.

Today is a reminder to check in on one another. A simple call, text, or shared memory can bring light into someone's day and help ease the burden of loneliness. You never know who might be needing that gentle connection.

Grant opportunities made possible by committed funding partners power up grief support for children in communities across the United States.

🕯️ How Do We Truly Support Those Grieving? 🕯️

Grief is complex. It doesn’t follow a script or timeline and it shows up in many forms. In the latest episode of the Non Profit Podcast Network, guests Elizabeth Cantu and Suzanne Austen take us into the heart of what it means to support people navigating the often invisible, overwhelming experience of loss.

🎙️ Hear how the Bereavement Network Resources of Sacramento, born from a group of grieving parents 41 years ago, has grown into a vital resource for our region - serving the counties of Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado. From helping LGBTQ+ individuals and families impacted by the opioid crisis, to collaborating with schools, healthcare workers, and law enforcement, this all-volunteer nonprofit continues to meet grief where it is.

💜 Whether you're a professional, a parent, an educator, or someone who has loved and lost, this conversation will leave you informed, inspired, and empowered to take part in reshaping how we care for one another in times of sorrow.

Our Story

In 1932, A.J. Nicoletti joined Fred Cippa to establish the Cippa & Nicoletti Funeral Home, located at 27th and O Street in Sacramento. When Mr. Cippa sold his share of the funeral business to Mr. Nicoletti, he purchased property in East Sacramento, and construction began of the A.J. Nicoletti Funeral Home at 5401 Folsom Boulevard. The new facility opened for business on March 1, 1990.

The Miller, Skelton and Herberger Funeral Home, known as Chapel of the Valley, was located at 1530 Alhambra Boulevard until the property was sold to the Sacramento Blood Bank, which was located next door to the funeral home. In 1997, Miller, Skelton and Herberger merged with A.J. Nicoletti Funeral Home, resulting in Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home.

Today, Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home is a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
