🧬 What’s in the TME?

Cancer cells

Immune cells (some fight cancer; others get hijacked)

Fibroblasts (can help build tissue — or help tumors spread)

Blood vessels (that bring nutrients and oxygen to fuel growth)

Signaling molecules (chemical “text messages” that guide behavior)

Matrix (provides structure — but also a highway for invasion)

🔄 Why It Matters: Traditional cancer treatments aim to destroy the tumor. But integrative and terrain-based oncology also asks: What is the tumor’s environment doing to support it? Can we change the “soil” so the “weed” can’t thrive?

Tumors can “recruit” immune cells and turn them off

The TME can block chemotherapy or immunotherapy from working

Chronic inflammation in the TME accelerates cancer growth

Terrain factors like blood sugar and oxygenation influence the TME

🩺 In Integrative Care:

Nutritional therapies may reduce inflammatory signals in the TME

Oxygen therapies (like hyperbaric oxygen or ozone) may alter the environment

Botanicals and repurposed drugs can target TME pathways

Lifestyle changes (like exercise or stress reduction) affect immune surveillance in the TME

REPOST • 1. Enhanced Oxygen Delivery:
Injured nerves often suffer from hypoxia (oxygen deprivation), which impairs healing. HBOT significantly increases oxygen levels in blood and tissues, supplying oxygen to ischemic or damaged nerves and supporting metabolic processes necessary for repair.

2. Reduction of Inflammation and Edema:
Nerve injuries often trigger inflammation and swelling, which can compress nerves and worsen damage. HBOT has anti-inflammatory effects, reducing edema and potentially relieving pressure on nerves.

3. Promotion of Nerve Regeneration:
Some preclinical studies suggest HBOT can stimulate neurogenesis and remyelination (restoring the protective sheath around nerves), thereby improving nerve conduction and functional recovery.

🔍 Summary Table
Group Affected Population
Children (≥ 5 µg/dL) ~0.4 %
Children (≥ 3.5 µg/dL) ~2.5 % (top 2.5 percentile)
Adults (20–59) ~0.7 % with elevated levels
Adults (≥ 60) ~0.8 % with elevated levels
Adults exposed as kids ~50 % of today's adults exposed >5 µg/dL in childhood

🧠 What This Means
Children: While severe cases are now rare, a small yet emotionally and economically costly segment (up to 2.5%) still has dangerous lead levels.

Adults: Though lower overall, certain jobs and old infrastructure still pose risk, especially occupational exposures.

Legacy burden: Half of Americans alive today carry the legacy of lead exposure from childhood—impacts that can still affect adult intelligence and health.

1. Identify five things you can see. Acknowledge each object by saying its name aloud or silently.

2. Acknowledge four things you can reach out and touch or feel. Again, take the moment to name them.

3. Shift your focus to three things you can hear in the Background.

4. Recognize two scents you can smell, allowing your sense of smell to engage. Name them.

5. Finally, pay attention to one thing you can taste, even if it's just the taste of your breath.

REPOST• You can’t heal in fight-or-flight.

Your body has two modes: survival or restoration. And what you eat can help determine which one you’re in.

Ultra-processed foods, excess sugar, and caffeine without adequate protein create blood sugar chaos. Each spike and crash sends a stress signal to your brain: cortisol rises, your heart rate jumps, and your nervous system prepares for threat.

In this state, your body isn’t focused on healing. Digestion slows. Detoxification stalls. Immune and reproductive function are put on pause…

But here’s the good news: You can regulate your nervous system starting with your metabolism.
- Protein-rich, nutrient-dense meals keep blood sugar steady.
- Nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and omega-3s support neurotransmitter balance.
- Daily rhythms of whole foods, quality sleep, movement, and rest send the signal: you’re safe.

Of course, nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle. You also have to do the inner work: Unwinding chronic stress, setting boundaries, releasing stored trauma, and creating emotional safety all help shift your body out of survival mode.

Healing happens when your body and mind both feel safe. Start with your plate and build from there.

Your nervous system is listening to everything: your food, your thoughts, your environment. When it senses safety, it finally gets to do what it’s designed to do: heal. ♥️

Homeostasis is essential for health and survival. When the body is unable to maintain internal balance, dysfunction or disease can occur. Overall, homeostasis reflects the body's continuous effort to stay in a state of equilibrium to support proper function and well-being.

Minimize Exposure (First Line of Defense)
While this seems obvious, minimizing smoke exposure is foundational in naturopathic care.

Wear a Proper Mask: Use N95 or P100 masks (not cloth or surgical masks) if you must go outside.

Use a Neti Pot or saline nasal spray to flush out particulates from the nasal passages.

Naturopathic Support for Detoxification
Liver Support
The liver is central in clearing toxins absorbed through inhalation.

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum): Enhances liver detox enzymes and protects against oxidative stress.

Schisandra: Adaptogenic and hepatoprotective.

Dandelion Root: Mildly bitter and supports bile flow and toxin elimination.

NAC (N-acetylcysteine): Precursor to glutathione, one of the body’s primary detox molecules.

Support Glutathione Production
Sulfur-rich foods: Garlic, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts.

Supplements: NAC, alpha-lipoic acid (ALA)

Respiratory Protection and Lung Support
Herbal Steam Inhalation: Thyme, eucalyptus, and mullein can soothe irritated airways.

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus): A classic lung herb used in tincture or tea.

Lobelia (in small doses): An antispasmodic and bronchodilator.

Licorice Root: Anti-inflammatory and soothing to mucous membranes (avoid long-term use with high blood pressure).

Marshmallow Root: Demulcent that soothes irritated tissue.

Adaptogens: Ashwagandha, rhodiola, and holy basil help reduce stress hormones.

Medicinal Mushrooms: Reishi, cordyceps, and chaga support immune function and respiratory resilience.

Vitamin C: Antioxidant and immune modulator (consider liposomal forms for higher absorption).

Zinc & Quercetin: Help regulate inflammation and immune function.

Hydration + Nutrition
Increase Water Intake: Helps flush out toxins and supports mucous membranes.

Add Electrolytes: Coconut water, lemon water with sea salt, or natural electrolyte powders.

Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Berries, leafy greens, turmeric, ginger, green tea.

Avoid Pro-Inflammatory Foods: Sugar, processed meats, dairy (if mucus-producing), and alcohol.

Gentle Detox Practices
Castor Oil Packs: Over the liver to promote detox and reduce inflammation.
