Alternatives Pregnancy Center is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, State of California licensed medical clinic. Since 1983, Alternatives has been dedicated to meeting the needs of women and children by holding true to the life-affirming core values upon which our organization was founded. Our goals include meeting the emergency needs of those facing unplanned pregnancies, while empowering them to build a positive future for both themselves and their children. Our licensed medical professionals and specially-trained volunteer client advocates provide pregnancy diagnosis, nursing consultations, ultrasound exams, and peer support. Our education center also provides prenatal and parenting classes to assist mothers, fathers, and infants.

It is true - We spent last week talking to Charlie and his team. He planned to be at our clinic for his daily podcast TPUSA and help us celebrate the beauty and sanctity of life. While we never dreamed this horror could happen, we will still honor Charlie and celebrate his life at this event.

Heavenly Father,

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The people of “the way” have eternal hope even in suffering.

John 14:1-2
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Lord, because we follow you alone, love must be the distinguishing mark of Jesus’ disciples. We are to love the Lord with all our hearts, love our neighbors as ourselves, and do the impossible - love our enemies. This command separates “the people of the way” - the Christian faith, from all other religions. No other God died for sinners. This is love. We are to live out what we believe in - because we believe in God and in the person of Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus has prepared a place for us in heaven with him; therefore, we will not allow our hearts to be troubled or afraid. We rest in your peace, surpassing all understanding and guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. As Job stated after receiving horrific news, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” We worship You, Lord, in this moment and trust You with our lives. Make us bold and courageous despite the threats all around us because You have ordained our birth and death - until the day You have preordained to call us home, we are immortal. Help us not shrink back in fear, but live for Your glory today on mission, unafraid of what man can do to us - just like Charlie Kirk chose to live. Lord, You are the way, the Truth, and the Life, and we follow You.

Lord, We will not live in fear and we will not allow this senseless act of horror to stop us from celebrating the Sanctity of Life - of Charlie’s life at SOHL this year.

Steve Burlingham currently serves as the Alternatives Board President. He and his wife, Elvira, have given to the ministry for several years before stepping into their position of leadership. “We love the way Alternatives loves clients at each stage and shares that Jesus is life and gives hope to those in desperate situations. We love how passionate Heidi and the staff are in saving lives and presenting the Gospel.” The Burlingham’s feel blessed to partner with us and enjoy seeing how God has blessed patients through our ministry. This month’s woman clothed in Strength & Dignity:

Cindy’s journey with Alternatives Pregnancy Center began in 2003, but her connection runs much deeper. It is rooted in her own abortion story.

At 19, while in college, Cindy found herself unexpectedly pregnant. When she told her boyfriend, he denied responsibility and abandoned her. With no support and too afraid to tell her parents, she believed abortion was her only option. Before the procedure, she asked to know her baby’s gender and to see the ultrasound, but her requests were dismissed. Despite her heart telling her not to, she felt trapped and went through with the abortion. The aftermath was terrifying as she endured severe pain, heavy bleeding, and the haunting thought, “What if I die and my parents don’t even know why?”

Because of this, Cindy confessed everything to her mom, but instead of receiving the comfort she was desperate for, she was met with disgust. With both her boyfriend and now her mom having rejected her, Cindy buried her whole experience and the emotions that came with it.

Her turning point came after transferring to Colorado Christian University, where her volleyball coach introduced her to the saving love of Jesus Christ. From there, her life began to change. After marriage, Cindy and her husband started supporting Alternatives financially, though at first, she admits it was partly out of a misplaced sense of needing to “make up” for her past. That changed when she joined Alternatives’ Abortion Recovery group, where she says she came out a completely different person, having finally found true healing and freedom.

Today, Cindy serves as Nurse Lead at Alternatives Pregnancy Center, providing medical care and emotional support to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Her story has come full circle, from a young woman who once felt trapped and alone, to a compassionate nurse who now walks with others in their most vulnerable moments.

This month’s woman of the Bible clothed in Strength & Dignity:

“Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept.” Mark 16:9-10

Mary Magdalene is a powerful example of a woman clothed in strength and dignity. Once bound by seven demons, she encountered Jesus and was healed by Him. From that moment on, she devoted herself fully to following Jesus, even helping to support His ministry through her own means. Mary’s loyalty never wavered, even in the darkest hours, as she stood at the foot of the cross alongside Jesus’ grieving family, refusing to abandon her Lord as He suffered and died for mankind. Out of love and reverence, she visited Jesus’ tomb to honor Him after His burial, and when she returned once more to anoint Him, she was met with the astounding news from an angel that her Savior had risen from the dead. In God’s providence, Mary was chosen to be the very first person to see the risen Christ, and in that sacred moment of joy, she fell at His feet, clinging to Him in worship. She then carried the message of His resurrection to the disciples, becoming the first witness to the greatest hope the world has ever known. Her life of devotion, courage, and unshakable faith reveals a woman whose dignity came from her Savior and whose strength was found in her steadfast love for Him.

By participating in our knitting group, you would be helping us bring joy to women as they step into motherhood, just as Marian did for the last 10 years of her life!

Heavenly Father,

I come to You this morning pleading for protection on behalf of every baby born by our patients.

Be their shield and buckler!

Psalm 91:4
[4] He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

While abortion is horrific, we acknowledge that a baby born into a physically or emotionally abusive environment is equally horrible. Lord Jesus, motherhood is hard. Give our mothers and fathers grace, patience, and the support they need to be godly parents who protect and love their children as they should. This is why our patients need the Gospel and why we so diligently and faithfully share the truth of the Gospel with the women who come to us. Holy Spirit, we ask You to supernaturally intervene and protect every baby we’ve had the privilege of helping to protect. We bring them through prayer to Your throne of grace in the “shelter of the Most High…we hid them in the shadow of Your wings…may Your faithfulness be a shield and buckler around them.” Lord God, we use and pray Your very words back to You. As Your words are life-giving…every word. You specifically say “shield and buckler,” while a buckler is a shield. You emphasize buckler because in Hebrew culture, it is a type of protective armor covering the entire body, often symbolizing a shield against adversity, and a piece of military equipment that provided physical and spiritual protection in battles.

Lord, we wage war not against flesh and blood but ultimately against the spiritual forces of this dark world. Satan prowls around like a roaring lion, searching for those he can devour. Yet, You are our Shield and Buckler and we wage war against him and intervine on their behalf - hiding our patients and their families in the shelter of The Most High God! Amen.

This month’s donor who displays Strength & Dignity:

Brooke Bandilla has been a donor with Alternatives since 2019. She says, “There is so much respect, love, and dignity that are given to each individual who comes through Alternatives’ door. There is no shame or guilt, and APC is a true blessing to so many. I also appreciate the Pro-Gospel, Pro-Women, Pro- Life approach. Alternatives is a light to the community when so much darkness exists.”

She has been deeply impacted by many of our patient stories, but Leilani’s story stands out specifically. “Leilani’s testimony was an incredible account of how, despite doctors telling her one thing, she had precious life growing inside of her. Now, she has a beautiful one year old son! I went through something similar and was told to terminate twice, and now I have a beautiful daughter. My daughter Maddix is a miracle and a living testament of the Lord’s faithfulness,” Brooke says.

This month’s patient who displays Strength & Dignity:

At just 21 years old, Vinnya faced one of the most life-changing moments a young woman can experience—she found out she was pregnant. Though the news was unexpected, she knew in her heart that she wanted to keep her baby. When she shared about her pregnancy with her mother, she was met with pressure to consider abortion. But her brother offered a different kind of response: unwavering support, encouragement, and excitement for the new life she was carrying.

Initially, Vinnya turned to Planned Parenthood for prenatal care. However, after making it clear that she had no intention of aborting, she was denied an ultrasound and was told they couldn’t proceed with the appointment unless she was pursuing termination. Confused and discouraged, Vinnya wasn’t sure where to turn for prenatal care because she didn’t have insurance. By God’s divine orchestration, she was referred to Alternatives Pregnancy Center.

Here, she found what she had been missing: compassionate, life-affirming medical care and emotional support. Along with receiving prenatal care for herself and her baby, Vinnya also joined our Parenting Classes to prepare for motherhood and learn how to thrive in this new season of life. Vinnya acknowledges the challenges of being a young mom, but she’s fully invested in giving her baby girl the best start in life.

Vinnya is a beautiful example of what it means to embody strength and dignity. She stood firm in her decision to choose life, even in the face of opposition, and she continues to pour her heart into becoming the best mother she can be.

This month’s woman of the Bible who displays Strength & Dignity:

“‘For the Lord your God, He is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath. Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that, as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a sure sign that you will save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death.’” -Joshua 2:12-13

Rahab displays strength and dignity through her courageous actions and unwavering faith in God. Though she was a pr******te living in Jericho, Rahab recognized the divine power of the God of Israel, having heard how He delivered them from slavery in Egypt. Her reverent fear of the Lord compelled her to protect the Israelite spies from the king’s wrath, risking her own life in the process. Rahab’s boldness didn’t stop there as she made a daring plea for the safety of her entire family, negotiating with the spies to ensure their protection when Israel would inevitably conquer the land. Her actions revealed not only a deep belief in God’s might but also a selfless determination to protect the people closest to her. Though she was not part of the chosen people, her faith set her apart, and the Lord chose her to be part of the lineage of His Son and mankind’s Savior, Jesus Christ. Rahab’s story powerfully illustrates how strength and dignity can emerge from unlikely places and how God’s grace can transform a life once marked by shame into one of legacy and purpose.
