Ecstatic Dance Midtown Sacramento

Ecstatic Dance Midtown Sacramento Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento is a DJ led community dance gathering. It's a big NON-VERBAL dance

04/16/2026

This is one of the biggest differences between ecstatic dance and many other dance environments. We cultivate expanded states of awareness through movement, breath, and music, not drugs or alcohol.

Why sober?
Because it invites you to explore a different edge, one that cannot be accessed when your state is altered. Dancing sober supports deeper presence, clearer consent, and a stronger connection to yourself and others. It helps keep the experience grounded, safe, and authentic.

The intention is to access a natural high through rhythm and movement, while staying fully aware. It also creates a more inclusive space, especially for those who choose to avoid substances, so everyone can feel comfortable participating.

What has your experience been dancing without anything altering your state? We would love to hear in the comments.

The nervous system is talked about a lot and for good reason. It shapes how we feel, move, connect, and respond to the world around us.

Dance can be a powerful way to support your nervous system… not by forcing it to change, but by meeting it exactly where it is.

No matter how you feel when you arrive on the dance floor, nothing needs to be fixed. Trust your body and listen to how it wants and needs to move. Although if you are looking for specific movements these can sometimes be supportive.

But remember your body knows the way.

Save this post for our next dance on April 24th. See the pinned post for the details!🤍

This is about showing up exactly as you are, without trying to perform or fit into any expectation.

Your movement doesn’t have to look a certain way, it can be fluid, still, messy, expressive, or completely unconventional, as long as it’s real for you.

It exists to create a space where you can drop distractions and come back into presence. No phones, just being in your body and experiencing the moment as it is.

What shifts for you when you allow yourself to show up this way?

“Non-verbal” in ecstatic dance usually means no talking or using words, not total silence!

Soft vocalizations like sighs, humming, or gentle sounds are generally okay, and even louder sounds can be fine if they naturally arise from the movement. The key is reading the room and being considerate of others, so your expression doesn’t disrupt the shared space.

Ready to experience the magic of a non-verbal space? Our next dance is April 24th, come and dance!

This month, we’ll be sharing some of the core tenets of ecstatic dance. And one of the key elements that sets it apart from most other dance spaces is that it’s nonverbal.

On the dance floor (and even on the stretching mats), all communication is nonverbal. Connection, expression, and even consent are shared through movement and presence rather than speech. Curious about nonverbal consent? Stay tuned, we’ll be diving deeper into that in upcoming posts.

So why nonverbal?

Verbal communication tends to pull us outward, into the mind and into social interaction. By removing it, we create space to drop more fully into the body, to feel, to listen, and to be present. Knowing that no one will approach you to talk allows for a deeper sense of safety and immersion.

If you’ve danced in a nonverbal space, what was it like for you? Did it help you drop in more deeply?

We’d love to hear your experience in the comments.

At our next dance our warm up will be hosted by Emmy Lo.

She is an intuitive dance guide and Sircle Yoga Dance facilitator, creating space for you to move from your body, not your mind. Through breath, circle, and somatic awareness, she guides you back to yourself.

Sircle is a movement practice that uses dance as a form of prayer. You slow down, drop into your body, then build a sequence of intentional movements, repeating them together in a circle like a moving mantra. This builds rhythm and flow till you close in stillness. It’s a practice that leaves you feeling grounded, energized, and connected to yourself.

Want to ground down with Emmy before Izzy Wise starts? Doors open at 7:20 pm for 7:30 pm start to our workshop.

Every dance begins with a guided movement workshop to help you drop into your body and arrive fully present. After the dance, we close with a sound journey so you land gently after such an ecstatic evening!

We’re passionate about featuring diverse artists and space holders, especially local talent. If you offer movement-based practices or work with sound or voice, we’d love to connect. Submit the form here: https://forms.gle/SV4PikKq5r12iJdJ9 And we’ll be in touch if it feels aligned for a future dance.

We’re currently seeking both opening and closing facilitators, with a special call for sound healers. Tag your favorites below!

We are Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento!

Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento is a DJ led community dance gathering. It is an alcohol free, family friendly event. Leave shoes and conversations at the door. We believe that movement is medicine and this is why we create non-verbal spaces. Silence allows the attention to drop out of the mind and into the depth of the body where alchemy resides.

ECSTATIC DANCE MIDTOWN-SACRAMENTO GUIDELINES: VERBAL & NON-VERBAL SPACES:

We’ve created one VERBAL and one NON-VERBAL space for you to engage with your ecstatic dance experience.

VERBAL SPACE: The social lounge area is the space you first walk into that has been created for you to enjoy and experience verbal conversations and connections.
