🎓 Have questions about applying? We have the answers! 💬

FAQ #1: Who should I ask for a professional letter of recommendation? ✉️

A: Most students ask the audiologists they completed their observation hours with to write this professional letter. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

FAQ #2: Is the GRE required this year? 🧠
A: No, the GRE has been waived this cycle. 🙌

FAQ #3: How will my application be evaluated? 📄
A: We use a holistic approach to reviewing applications. This means that we use your transcript grades (GPA), resume, essay, letters of recommendation, observation hours, and interview in our decisions.

✨ The holistic review combines your unique experiences with traditional academic measures, allowing the committee to consider several factors that contribute to your potential as an Au.D. student in our program and future audiologist. 👂🎓

FAQ #4: Why are there two deadlines? ⏰
A: Our first deadline is the priority deadline, and the second deadline is the final deadline. We encourage applicants to submit their materials by January 5 (the priority deadline). 📅 These applicants will have their interviews scheduled and decisions earlier than the final deadline applicants. If you need more time, continue to work on your application and submit it by February 15. 🗓️

FAQ #5: Can I meet someone from the program and see the clinic? 👋🏥

A: Yes! Contact Dr. Laura Gaeta, Au.D. Program Director, to schedule a prospective student tour and meeting (30 minutes). The time includes about 15 minutes for the tour of the clinic and 15 minutes for questions. 💬 To schedule office hours either virtually or in Folsom Hall (no tour):

Congratulations to Bianca Esparza, second-year Au.D. student, for winning the CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement. This prestigious honor recognizes students for their academic performance and resilience. Bianca represented Sacramento State last month during the CSU Board of Trustees’ ceremony. We’re so proud to see Bianca recognized for her excellence and representing our program on such a big stage!

“When patients make progress and they express their gratitude, I know that I have made the perfect choice....I am serving real people and making a difference. When you are doing something that you really love, it makes the studying and everything else a little easier.”

Dual Accreditation = Quality & Trust
Quality You Can Trust. 🤝

When you choose an Au.D. program, accreditation matters. It is how you know your education meets the highest standards and prepares you for a successful career.

That’s why we are proud to say that our Au.D. program is accredited by both the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) and the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA). ✅

What this means for you:
· Assurance that our program’s curriculum meets rigorous professional standards
· Confidence that you’ll graduate prepared for clinical excellence
· Recognition across the profession, no matter where your career as an audiologist goes

We strive for our students to receive the very best clinical education in audiology at Sacramento State.

Kicking off our first research spotlight with Dr. Hamid Motallebzadeh!

This summer, Dr. Motallebzadeh presented, “Simulation of middle-ear effusion effects on wideband acoustic immittance: A multi-step fluid-structure interaction approach,” at the International Symposium on Middle Ear Mechanics in Research and Otology in Belgium. 👂

Computational models of biological systems, including the middle ear, are essential for interpreting experimental data and predicting system behavior, particularly when direct measurements are limited. In this study, we developed an anatomically realistic model of the outer and middle ear, with the measurement probe placed in the canal, to investigate the effects of effusion volume, viscosity, and head orientation on wideband tympanometry outcomes.

Bone-anchored hearing aid recipient

"We’re thrilled to welcome our first bone-anchored hearing aid patient at the Maryjane Rees Center Audiology Clinic at Folsom Hall. After 20-plus years of mixed hearing loss, the patient underwent surgery at Sutter Sacramento and returns for activation on Tuesday, June 3. Joining the appointment will be a Cochlear Americas representative, an Au.D. student, and Ariel Cassar, Au.D., CCC-A, Clinical Education coordinator. Join us in congratulating this patient. As a reminder, since 1952, speech, language and hearing services have been provided by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, which has remained committed to providing the community with exceptional services through our on-campus clinic. Learn more about the Maryjane Rees Language, Speech and Hearing Center, which offers a variety of audiological and hearing aid services."

Two weeks ago, the CSUS Au.D. program held its White Coat Ceremony for our current third-year students who are about to leave for externship. The event marks the students’ transition to their final year as an extern, and students take an oath during the ceremony. Students’ families and friends attended the ceremony. We will see these students back in May 2026 for graduation!
