You guys will like this one. My 91 year old mother who is a Master Gardener and quite the floral guru found out from a friend that by putting a birth control pill in a hanging plant it will make it grow so beautifully. But she said to me "How will I convince my doctor at 91 that I need birth control pills?"

Love this video! Since I work in the senior industry it is great to see a care provider that has a unique instinct for helping add comfort to the sick and aged.

Hello everyone! Hope you guys had a great Father's Day weekend and I thought I would introduce you to my new new friend and my new old friend. The new new friend is my grandson Emmett. He was born the day after Thanksgiving and is he ever a butterball! I get my weight lifting in when he visits.
My new old friend is Fred Sheller. He is a veteran of the Navy and Air Force is presently going strong at 95 years young. As I do the heavy lifting with Emmett, Fred and the men and women of his generation ( The Greatest Generation) did the heavy lifting for the rest of us. I hope you have a chance to spend some time with someone from this generation. They have dignity, class and a lot of stories. I feel blessed that I am around these people so much and get to hear the stories.
If you need help navigating your loved ones needs financially and want help stretching their money out, let me know. And be sure to hug and/or thank one of the members of this generation before they are gone.

Hello everyone! We had a wonderful OAC breakfast this morning in Folsom. Thank you to Michael Tipton and Allison Perkes for hosting it. I asked Bev Dierks of Oakmont to tell us a few bullet points about assisted living.

Life in assisted living is meant to be full of vitality, joy and purpose. Staff is
continually striving to offer a palate of activities that both resonate with and
challenge community members. Residents at assisted living can choose from a
variety of pursuits designed to engage seniors physically, intellectually, and
socially. Regular physical activity is important to the physical and mental
health of everyone, and seniors often need encouragement and reassurance
to participate. A full social and activity calendar offers a spectrum of daily
pursuits. In-house events and excursions are scheduled on a weekly basis,
in addition to regularly scheduled daily events.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. It seems like when we get together with family the topic can sometimes turn to care for our aging parents or grandparents. It is such a natural part of life but so difficult sometimes for parents and children to discuss. The roles of the parents and children flip from the parents being the decision makers to the children being the decision makers and for some parents releasing that control is difficult. They, in some ways see it as a weakness or admitting that they are all through in life. Not so! Staying active and positive are so powerful in having a joy filled life even as the final chapters are being written. I can help with this transition. In most cases there is so much more peace of mind when parents and kids have a plan in place. Let me help your family through this time.
Once that is set up then everyone in the family has the confidence that no matter what happens, their loved ones will get the best care and the family will have the peace of mind knowing there is a plan.

Hello everyone! Last time I mentioned I would be writing about my mother. Today the sweet woman turned 91 years young! She lives independently at home, still drives, volunteers at the library once a week and goes to yoga once a week. She has a tremendous attitude and is truly one of my best friends. Our family is blessed to have her in our lives. Since I work with seniors she continues to amaze me and I wanted to share with all of you a pearl of wisdom she gave me. She says she always remembers these three things:
1. She makes sure she gets around people younger than herself as everyone her age just complains about how bad they feel.
2. She always does at least one active thing each week and likes to help people as that keeps her thoughts on others.
3. She keeps her sense of humor!

What senior do you have in your life that inspires you?

Hello everyone. I’m in Texas today getting ready to head back to California after attending my nieces wedding. It was a joyous occasion and a healing one as well for our family. My sister Denise passed away from colon cancer in 2002 and it was her daughter Katie who was only 11 at the time who got married. She was walked down the aisle by her dad Steve and her younger brother Kevin who was only 4 when his mom passed.
They were in tears as they walked down the aisle as was the rest of us. Since we also lost my older sister Diane to cancer two years ago our family needed a joyful occasion to get together as opposed to the sad ones we have endured together.
What was encouraging to me was the way God can bring us through the winters of our lives and bring spring again. How each winter can have us huddle together to survive and it was that season that drew us closer together as a family.
How much our choice to care for Seniors is like that. As they are in the winter of their lives we huddle with them with compassion and love. And when they pass there is spring again as their family feels the comfort of knowing their loved one is at peace and their family now can enjoy the wonderful memories they will have of that loved one.
I have felt loss in my life but I also have been tremendously blessed as well. And I choose to focus on those blessings and not the losses.
I miss my sisters so much but I also have so much to be thankful for. A wonderful wife, wonderful children, wonderful family and wonderful friends like you. I love working and helping seniors, they have so much wisdom and so much patience and I learned so much from them. Next week I’m going to share with you how one such senior and a mentor in my life, my mom Donna has had such a powerful impact on my life. She’s a survivor and a fighter and she chooses to focus on the positive.
