HISTORY OF AYURVEDA
Born in India, Ayurveda is a universal science that was studied and articulated in such detail that modern science is still working to catch up with this vast body of work. Written down approximately 5000 years ago by advanced "Seers", Ayurveda became the most complete accounting of the laws of nature. It explains how the laws of nature relate to the human physiology and the surrounding universe. Ayurveda explains how we can use nature to heal ourselves. It reminds us that we are nature; we are connected, rooted to the earth and not simply observers. Ayurvedic teachings cover lifestyle, diet, exercise, herbs and other natural treatments. At the root of this philosophy is an emphasis on the intersection between consciousness (the mind) and matter (the body). It is explained by a common Ayurvedic saying, "As is the microcosm, so is the macrocosm"; as is the mind, so is the body.
