Advocacy in Action.

Dr. Sean Kim, Vice President of Practice & Professional Development at CPhA, recently visited the UCI School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences to speak about the evolution of pharmacy practice in California and the critical importance of grassroots advocacy.

He also met with Senator Steven Choi to discuss the role of pharmacy within our healthcare system and the policies shaping the future of patient care.

The future of pharmacy is bright, and it is in strong hands.

Special thanks to student leaders Calvin Yang and Elizabeth Ogan for their leadership and engagement.

🍊 Exchange oranges or tangerines for good fortune
🥟 Eat dumplings for wealth and abundance
🍜 Enjoy long noodles for longevity and togetherness
🕯️ Light incense and place food in front of family photos to honor and remember ancestors
🎆 Wear red to invite luck and protection

Things to avoid (especially the first 1 to 3 days)
🚫 No sweeping or taking out trash because it sweeps away good fortune
🚫 Avoid washing your hair or clothes on Day 1, you could wash away luck
🚫 No negative words or mindset, set the tone for the year
🚫 Avoid black or white clothing traditionally linked to mourning

***PAC Dessert Fundraiser***

In 2025, the CPh-PAC accomplished milestones in getting critical legislation passed to support pharmacists and to protect our profession. Here is an opportunity for members and supporters of the Sacramento Valley Pharmacists Association to help give the PAC the support they need to continue to advocate for us.

Please consider donating baked goods for the Annual CPh-PAC Bake Sale Fundraiser at the SVPhA Crab Feed on March 14th. Homemade or store bought goods are appreciated! **Please make sure your baked goods do not need refrigeration or contain custard/cream fillings.** Bring your baked goods to the Crab Feed on March 14th or contact Janet Dumonchelle at dumonche@csus.edu to arrange for a pick-up.

Thank you for helping support the organization that along with lobbying and grassroots involvement, is a pillar of CPhA’s advocacy efforts and has enabled CPhA to become one of the most respected and recognized associations in the Capital.

More than 60 student pharmacists came together outdoors in Southern California for Policy On Tap, a brewery-hosted evening focused on the legislative issues shaping the future of pharmacy.

With every SoCal school of pharmacy represented, students connected over advocacy, public policy, and the role they play in advancing the profession.

Thank you to Josh Newman, former California Senator, candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction, and CPhA Friend of Pharmacy awardee, for joining us and speaking directly to the next generation of pharmacy leaders.

We appreciate everyone who came out and helped make this event engaging, informative, and fun!

📣 National PBM reform is here. 📣

Congress has passed and the President signed major PBM reforms as part of the 2026 Appropriations Bill. CPhA supported this legislation to advance transparency, accountability, and access across the prescription drug system.

Key changes include
• Required reporting on drug spending, rebates, and spread pricing
• Limits on PBM compensation in Medicare Part D starting in 2028
• Stronger any willing pharmacy protections and safeguards for independent pharmacies

A meaningful step forward for pharmacists, patients, and fairer prescription drug practices.
