At 16, Leslie survived a fire that burned 80% of her body and resulted in the loss of both her legs. Her journey to heal led her to Shriners Children’s Northern California.
There, she received specialized burn care, reconstructive surgeries, and prosthetic legs—all at no cost to her family. Through intense therapy, she is learning to walk again.
Now, Leslie is focused on finishing high school, crocheting, baking, and her dream of becoming an animal-assisted therapist. “I’ve had to slow down a lot,” she says, “but I know I can get back to doing the things I love.”
This , we honor survivors like Leslie.

When Gideon’s recovery stalled after surviving burns on 84% of his body, his family drove 21 hours for a higher level of care.
At Shriners Children’s Northern California, a collaborative team performed critical surgery, healed stubborn wounds, and guided him through months of intense rehabilitation. He relearned to sit, stand, and walk.
"When he came, he couldn’t sit up. When we left, he didn’t need his wheelchair," says Gideon’s mom.
Today, he’s back home, playing video games and dreaming of adventures.
This , we celebrate resilience and the team that makes recovery possible.
