🤱🏾 This week is Black Maternal Health Week — a time to focus on the urgent need to address the stark maternal health disparities faced by Black mothers in the United States.
As anesthesiologists, we play a critical role in maternal care. From labor analgesia to cesarean anesthesia and postpartum pain management, our decisions directly impact outcomes for Black mothers and their babies.
The California Society of Anesthesiologists stands committed to:
Reducing maternal morbidity and mortality
Providing culturally competent, equitable care
Supporting research and education on disparities in obstetric anesthesia
Advocating for systemic changes that improve Black maternal health
Every mother deserves safe, respectful, and excellent care — no matter her race or background.
We honor the strength and resilience of Black mothers and reaffirm our dedication to health equity in perinatal anesthesia.
