Happy Opposite Day! πŸ™ƒ

Fun fact: Today is Opposite Day - a silly holiday where people playfully say the opposite of what they mean. But here at Bridges of the Mind, we know that clear communication matters, especially for our neurodivergent community who might interpret things literally.

So let's be clear: This is what's ALWAYS true:
βœ… We're here to support your family
βœ… Our office is warm and welcoming
βœ… We accept and celebrate neurodiversity
βœ… We offer compassionate psychological assessments

βœ… Virtual appointments are available

No opposites, no confusion - just consistent, caring support for your family! πŸ’™

Have fun with Opposite Day if you celebrate it, and remember we're here when you need us (that never changes!).

What does "neuroaffirmative" really mean?

You might hear us use this term when talking about our autism evaluations. Here's what it means for you:
✨ It's about difference, not deficit – We see autism as a different way of experiencing the worldβ€”not a problem to fix.
πŸ—£οΈ We honor how you communicate – No pressure to act neurotypical. We create space for authentic communication.
🌍 We look at your environment too – Struggles often happen when surroundings don't fit your needs. We help you adjust your environment and find supports that work with how you naturally are.
πŸ’ We listen to and believe you – What you tell us about your experience matters most.
🎯 You get the full picture – Together, we identify what's hard AND what you're already doing well, so you can lean into your strengths.

At Bridges of the Mind, assessment should validate your experience while providing insights and support to help you thrive.

Meet John Almeda: A Story of Strength, Belief, and Breaking Barriers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqq2UcT409g

At the Bridging of the Minds Assessment Summit 2026, we're honored to welcome Vanessa Beiker and her son, John Almeda, as guest speakers. John is a non-verbal autistic marathon runner whose incredible journey demonstrates the transformative power of strengths-based assessment and unwavering belief.

John's story is a testament to what becomes possible when families and professionals focus on abilities rather than limitations. Through comprehensive assessment and a commitment to honoring his unique strengths, John has participated in numerous marathons across the nationβ€”proving that understanding how someone is wired opens doors to extraordinary achievements.

Join us at the summit to hear directly from Vanessa and John about their journey, the role assessment played in identifying John's remarkable abilities, and how a strengths-based, neurodiverse-affirmative approach can change everything for families navigating autism and other neurodevelopmental differences.

Be inspired. Be empowered. Be part of the conversation that celebrates what's possible.

Team Member of the Month: John Joseph

Last month, we got to know a little about John Joseph's personality, special interests, and talents. This month, as Team Member of the Month, we're honored to highlight his professionalism and the remarkable impact he brings to Bridges of the Mind and our clients. It's his teammates who recognized him for this special honor, and it's easy to see why.

John's welcoming presence and thoughtful approach create an environment where clients and families feel truly supported from the moment they arrive. His dedication to building meaningful connections is evident in the consistently positive feedback we receiveβ€”families often share how much they value working with him and how supported they feel throughout their journey.

With sound judgment, patience, and a natural ability to connect with both children and adults, John exemplifies the compassionate, client-centered care that defines our practice. His growing caseload reflects the trust families place in him, and we're grateful to have him as part of our team.

Congratulations, John! Thank you for the exceptional care you provide to our community.

Core Benefits of Nature Exposure

Just 20+ minutes in nature without devices reduces mental fatigue, improves attention, and alleviates depression and rumination

Even viewing nature images or hearing nature sounds provides benefits (though weaker than physical presence)

Proximity to green spaces correlates with better school performance

Try adding one of these to your daily activities: gardening, walking in the woods, working out in the park, outdoor adventures, time by the water, farm work, outdoor play, nature volunteering, and making the outdoors part of your everyday life.

Want to prioritize your mental health? Schedule an appointment with one of our therapists. We offer both in-person and virtual sessions to fit your needs.

01/16/2026

Once there was a little caterpillar who wasn’t sure where she belonged. Her world had been full of big changes, big feelings, and questions that felt too heavy to hold alone.

With the help of patient, loving grown-ups, she learns that it’s okay to be scared and brave at the same time, to remember where you’ve been and still grow into who you’re becoming. Little by little, with safety, time, and care, she discovers that she was always meant to become a butterfly.

The Caterpillar Who Became a Butterfly is a gentle, therapeutic story for children who have experienced big transitions, such as adoption, foster care, divorce, or moving homes, and the adults who love them.

Written by Bridges of the Mind's owner and licensed psychologist, Dr. Erika Frieze, who has spent years helping children and families through big feelings and big changes. This story is designed to open gentle conversations, offer comfort, and create a sense of safety and hopeβ€”one page at a time.

ABOUT BRIDGES OF THE MIND

Bridges of the Mind Psychological Services was founded by Dr. Erika Frieze in 2018 in response to her drive to work with and help as many families as possible. In 2019 Dr. Frieze expanded her vision of Bridges of the Mind and grew it into a group practice of clinicians and specialists who are passionate about providing services to our community and region.

At Bridges of the Mind we provide neurodevelopmental assessments for infants through adulthood, specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Delays, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disorders, and Independent Education Evaluations with Expert Witness Testimony. Additionally we offer anxiety and social skills groups for a variety of ages, as well as Barton method reading tutoring.

We continue to grow, adding practitioners and specialists for the community’s needs!
