Ideal candidate characteristics are:
*Must Reside in City of Sacramento city limits
*Minimum of high school diploma
18+ years old
*Strong foundational computer or IT skills
*Own or have full-time access to a laptop and WiFi (accommodations can be made)
*Some college courses or Associate degree in STEM
*Some work experience is helpful but not a requirement

*To network with other cohort members

Cyber Proud Sacramento is partnering with Woz Enterprise, a division of Woz U to offer no cost enrollment in a nationally Registered Apprenticeship Program to serve selected candidates that reside within the City of Sacramento. This is made possible through a CARES Act grant provided by the City of Sacramento.

How has 2019 been treating you? I have been reflecting back on all the changes that have occurred so far this year and the new unexpected challenges that continue to arise. I'm curious, when forced to adapt, restructure and compete, are we ever prepared? We know change can be uncomfortable but it is inevitable. During these next few weeks I will be exploring the intersections between passions and the ever changing landscape we live and work in. As I seek to expand the reach and impact of my efforts, what are some insights that I can learn and share that will help propel us to the next level. What challenges or changes will force us to adapt? How should we prepare now to be ready for the future? Exciting times coming in 2020! Are you ready?

▪ Sacramento gained about 6,680 millennial residents last year, making it the third most-popular landing spot for millennials.
▪ Among Sacramento college graduates, about 53 percent have STEM degrees.
▪ Sacramento ranked No. 6 among small tech markets out of 50 major markets in North America.
▪ The region leads the nation in terms of women-founded businesses.

I will be exploring this Youth Build grant opportunity for Sacramento, Yolo and Yuba-Sutter region. Let me know if your organization is interested in learning more.
The purpose of this program is to fund organizations to provide a pre-apprenticeship program model that encompasses education, occupational skills training, leadership development, and post-program placement opportunities to at-risk youth. YouthBuild is a community-based alternative education program for youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are high school dropouts, adjudicated youth, youth aging out of foster care, youth with disabilities, migrant farmworker youth, and other disconnected youth populations. The YouthBuild program simultaneously addresses multiple core issues important to youth in low-income communities: affordable housing, leadership development, education, and employment opportunities in in-demand industries and apprenticeship pathways. The YouthBuild model balances project-based academic learning and occupational skills training to prepare disadvantaged youth for career placement. The academic component assists youth who are often significantly behind in basic skill development in obtaining a high school diploma or State high school equivalency credential. The occupational skills training component prepares at-risk youth for apprenticeship and other career pathways and/or further education or training. It also supports the goal of increasing affordable housing within communities by teaching youth construction skills learned by building or significantly renovating homes for sale or rent to low-income families or transitional housing for homeless families or individuals.

The US Department of Labor receives an annual appropriation from Congress for the federal YouthBuild program, which it operates effectively with close attention to quality, performance outcomes, and community need. The U.S. Department of Labor announced the award of $85 million in YouthBuild grants....
