Pediatric sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is a general term used for any interruption in breathing while sleeping.

Awareness is key. The most obvious symptom of sleep disordered breathing is loud snoring. Snoring is not a normal behavior. Healthy nighttime sleep breathing consists of quiet nasal breathing with the lips closed and the tongue resting all the way up at the roof of the mouth.

A tongue-tie release surgery done with a Waterlase laser (Er, Cr/YSGG). Patient complained of dry mouth when sleeping (due to mouth breathing) and speech problems. A thick lingual frenum is noted preventing the tongue from assuming the normal position while asleep.

No anesthetics were required for this surgery. There was no bleeding. Also no sutures were needed. The tongue tie was released using air, water and light energy.

The first three photos are pre operative, showing the thick lingual frenum and the limited tongue extension/movements.

The next three photos are post-surgery, showing the successful tongue tie release and improved tongue mobility (tongue extension and lift)

Waterlase laser treatment is available at El Camino Family Dental Practice for many dental procedures including fillings, periodontal treatment, root canals, surgery, etc., some of which do not require anesthetic injections.

El Camino Family Dental Practice is looking for a bilingual person to help with our front desk. Duties include receiving calls, scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims, verifying insurance coverage, presenting patient treatment plans and financial agreements, etc.

Dental front office experience is required. The office uses Dentimax Practice software and training for its use will be provided if candidate is not familiar with it.

Knowledge of CDT codes and dental insurance processes is a must. Also must love kids!
