Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify the diagnosis of Hoarding Disorder and stages of change in the treatment.

2. Participants will be able to distinguish between cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure response prevention.

3. Participants will be able to identify how family members can support an individual struggling hoarding behaviors.

Don't forget tomorrow's presentation:
Over-informed: The Connection Between Social Media and Rising Anxiety by Dr. Tracy Roulet, PsyD
This presentation highlights the relationship between anxiety and information overload, highlighting how the constant stream of information—especially from social media and digital communication—can intensify feelings of anxiety. It explains that individuals with anxiety often seek out excessive information to feel prepared for future situations or to analyze past ones. However, this habit can backfire, leading to overthinking, self-criticism, and increased stress.
The speech emphasizes how social media contributes to this cycle by bombarding users with idealized images and interactions, which can make socially anxious individuals feel inadequate or excluded. The speaker also points out that the pressure to constantly stay informed, respond quickly, and appear socially competent adds more stress, creating a loop of worry and mental exhaustion.
To conclude, the presentation offers strategies for managing this overload, such as setting boundaries with technology, practicing mindfulness, and seeking support when needed. The core message: breaking the cycle starts with awareness and small, intentional steps toward balance.
