If your app was rcvd AFTER the dates listed, it is pending and has not been evaluated yet. Staff is unable to provide status checks on apps still pending review.

IF YOUR RECEIVED DATE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROCESSED and you have not received an email, a mailed letter, or cannot look up your associate number on DCA License Search, https://search.dca.ca.gov/, Message the Board at https://www.bbs.ca.gov/about/contact_us.html.

Received date is the date the Board received your application. Apps are processed in date order RECEIVED. If you don't know your RECEIVED date, please consider it approx 1 wk after mailing. SUBMISSION date in Breeze is the date payment was cashiered. Payments can take up to 4 weeks to be processed from date the Board RECEIVED your application.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe Board recommends creating your BreEZe account after your check has been cashed. This ensures your information links correctly to your BreEZe account.

If you create your account before your check is cashed, you may need to update your BreEZe profile and manually link your DCA records.

Should this be necessary, please refer to this guide, starting at Step 7 (your account may display โ€œUpdate Profileโ€), available on the BBS website for detailed instructions https://bbs.ca.gov/pdf/breeze_create_account.pdf.

๐ŸšจSupervision via Videoconferencing Allowance Now Permanent!

Originally set to expire on January 1, 2026, the provision in law allowing supervision via videoconferencing in all settings has now been made permanent with the Governorโ€™s recent signing of Senate Bill 775. This means supervisors and supervisees may continue to meet remotely via videoconferencing for supervision sessions moving forward. This change ensures continued flexibility and improves access to supervision, particularly in remote or underserved areas.

A reminder that if supervision via videoconferencing is used, the law requires that within 60 days of the commencement of supervision, the supervisor must conduct a meeting with their supervisee to assess the appropriateness of allowing the supervisee to receive supervision via two-way, real-time videoconferencing. The assessment must include, but is not limited to, all of the following:

The abilities of the supervisee;

The preferences of both the supervisee and supervisor;

The privacy of the locations of the supervisee and supervisor while supervision is conducted.

The supervisor must document the results of their assessment. If their assessment finds that supervision via two-way, real-time videoconferencing is not appropriate with that supervisee, then they shall not utilize it.

Thanks,

Board of Behavioral Sciences

๐Ÿ“ฃIt's National Psychotherapy Day!

National Psychotherapy Day is recognized annually on September 25. For a long time, mental illness was not recognized as a legitimate health issue. Over the years, there has been a growing understanding that true well-being requires both physical and mental health to be in balance. Thankfully, significant progress has been made in the treatment of mental health conditions with one major advancement being psychotherapy. Despite this, there is still a strong need to raise awareness about psychotherapy and the many benefits it can offer.
