UC Davis Family Medicine & Psychiatry Residency

AMP annual conference never disappoints, and this is the first year that and were able to fully protect the time for our residents to attend and make this our annual retreat. (Thank you to our amazing program director, Dr. Kate Richards, who has been working on this monumental change since she was a resident in this program!) We have the opportunity to learn from folks doing amazing work at the intersection of medicine and psychiatry, meet medical students interested in this path as well, celebrate the experience of going through combined training with our colleagues and friends at the other programs and spend time in community with one another and our fellow friends. Can’t wait until next year when it is in Newport Beach! Already making plans with our FMP friends across the country! Thank you Milwaukee!

Congratulations to Dr. Shanon Astley and Dr. Beatrice Nichols on graduating! We are so lucky to have learned from these two, and so proud of everything they’ve accomplished! We are extra lucky that both will be staying in Sacramento! Bea will continue as faculty at UCD working at our Sacramento County Clinic and starting our combined family medicine-psychiatry outpatient clinic. Over the summer, Shanon will be doing MAT work at SANE and working at the Mental Health Urgent Care Clinic. In the fall, she will be starting at Elica, a local FQHC where she will focus on outpatient adult psychiatry with dedicated time for perinatal psychiatry, MAT, and same day family medicine clinic.

Education - She joins UC Davis after completing undergraduate and medical school education at Yale University, where she cultivated her interests in scientific inquiry, art, advocacy, communication, and the study of micro-cultural dynamics

Origin - Sacramento local, I got an early start on working at a young age. I really found myself and my interests within medicine through the people I met along the way at my many jobs and volunteer gigs.

Education - American River Community College -> transferred to UC Davis, majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology -> UC San Diego School of Medicine

Medicine Interests - Maternal Mental Health, Promoting Wellness and Harm Reduction Practices

Interests - Slowly working my way through hiking all of the National Parks, landscape photography, spending time with my dog, Lucy and feeding my creative side with plant base baking and painting.
