NorCal Physiotherapy and Sports Sciences

NorCal Physiotherapy and Sports Sciences Helping Active People Stay Active! Our belief is that rest and pain medication never completely resolves injury.

Telling you that the exercise is dangerous and to stop doing what you love is not acceptable. We remove the frustration and helplessness that is often experienced. We believe in empowering the individual so that they can experience not only quick relief but also long term improvement. We do this in 3 steps:
1:Alleviate the pain.
2:Fix the underlying cause.
3:Plan for the future. We get athletes of all ages and competitive levels back to the activities they love - quickly, completely, confidently.

Why not try the hardest variation of overhead press??

External rotation is where stability lives- so give this a whirl next time you’re scheduled for an overhead day.

If you’ve ever searched “how to fix running form”, you’ve surely been met with a slew of quick tips- land on midfoot, shorten stride, arms at 90 degrees… etc etc.

We take a different approach. And there’s a clinical reason for that. It’s *Assessment BEFORE Intervention*. Simply put?

Understand WHY you run the way you do before making any changes. Because in certain cases, change may make things worse.

It’s not a phase, guys.

High pain tolerance? Here’s three things to consider before you label yourself that way:
1. Is that true? 😬
2. Have you been in pain so long, it’s just become your NORMAL?
3. How are you measuring it?

We work with a lot of people who suffer with chronic pain and/or feel like they’ve got a high pain tolerance. And we always want to remind: pain isn’t a competition. Focus on what pain means to YOU- and address it in a way that is meaningful to you.

Hi 👋 it’s us, Dr Caleb Kauffmann and Jess Kauffmann with NorCal Physio. After getting married in 2011, we opened the doors of NCP in 2017 with one purpose: helping people feel confident their bodies can support their active lifestyles.

When we aren’t at the clinic, you can find us in the gym, on the trail, at Disneyland or playing Legend Of Zelda at home. Little outdoorsy, little nerdy, lotta passionate about our community.

Every event, every milestone, every challenge: our family shows us right alongside us. That’s just how we do things. Strength, honor, and respect are the foundation of our home and we pour that into NCP.

It’s an honor to do work and life surrounded by the people we love.

How did you first meet us? We’d love to hear that story. ❤️

Soft tissue work: it’s important, but it’s not a fix.

We’ve heard from a lot of you that this technique is really helpful. And it’s a lot harder than it seems!

Box breathing- 5 seconds in, 5 second hold, 5 seconds out, 5 second hold.

Find a dark room, relax, put on some binaural beats and breathe. Let’s down regulate that nervous system.

Hot take…. Literally
But does this make sense to you? The hardest thing to handle as a DPT is a client who can’t/wont give feedback.

Yeah, we are human movement experts. But we don’t live in your body- and your feedback is KEY to helping us both (you and your PT) get the results we BOTH want.

In more pain after your session? Tell your PT.
Feeling a little uncertain about your progression? Tell your PT.
Not clear on what the heck you’re actually doing at PT? Tell your PT.

And if they’re a good physical therapist, they won’t take it personally- they’ll take it as an opportunity to collaborate with their client.

You can find him at just about any local Sacramento race! He’s kind of a legend.

Walter committed to a solid year of focusing on his running, after being told he was “too old to be running like this.” And his hard work paid off- not only is he running pain free, but he shaved 20-30min off his finish time!
No brace, no swelling, better cadence, pain free runs= a happy and confident runner. ❤️

And if you’re ever wondering if we remember you even from your first appointment- I promise we do.
