Shoutout to Jocelyn, one of our amazing PTs, who volunteered at this year’s Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run! 🏃‍♀️🔥

This iconic ultra starts in Olympic Valley and finishes in Auburn — climbing over 18,000 ft and descending 23,000 ft through the rugged Sierra Nevada.

Jocelyn was stationed at Michigan Bluff, the halfway point, helping runners stay strong, safe, and moving through one of the toughest races in the world.

We’re proud to have team members who show up for their community — both in and out of the clinic!

We had the pleasure of teaming up with Dr. Jennifer Addleman, DO, CSCS — Stanford PM&R resident and former KIME team member — for a diagnostic ultrasound education with our El Dorado Hills Team.

It’s always exciting to collaborate with clinicians who blend top-tier education with a hands-on approach to patient care. Grateful to have her back in the clinic, even if just for a visit!

Ep. 53: Performance vs. Play — What Are We Really Training For?

We’re kicking things off with a simple but powerful question:

In this episode, Dr. Tony Mikla and Russ Dunning, MPT dive into the trade-offs between human performance (speed, strength, power) and sport performance (IQ, conditioning, game-time success).

🏋️ Why do D1 athletes come back weaker after a season?
⚖️ Can you maximize performance and stay healthy?
🧠 What happens when we stop training and just start playing?

💥 “It’s not 90% mental. It’s 100% physical.”
– Brad Kearns, on the reality of cumulative stress

In Episode 45 of , Brad and Tony dig into a topic not enough people in sports performance talk about:

📊 Stress is stress.
Whether it’s from training, finances, work, or relationships—your body processes it all the same.

And if you’re not managing that total load, performance will pay the price.

✅ Confidence grows as the body adapts
✅ Mental resilience follows physical consistency
✅ Recovery isn’t optional—it’s strategy

If you're chasing high performance without accounting for life stress… you're not seeing the full picture.

🔹 Rethinking Joint Replacement: Age vs. Quality of Life 🔹
For years, the standard thinking in orthopedics was “Wait until you’re 70” before considering a total joint replacement—whether it’s a hip, knee, or shoulder. But according to Dr. Sean Robinson of Revolution Orthopedics, this outdated mindset is shifting.

💡 The New Approach? It’s Not About Age—It’s About Quality of Life.

🔹 Traditional thinking: Delay surgery as long as possible
🔹 Modern approach: Evaluate how much arthritis is impacting daily life

Dr. Robinson’s Three Checkpoints for Joint Replacement:
✔ Poor sleep due to joint pain
✔ Difficulty with everyday activities
✔ Avoidance of enjoyable activities

If a 47-year-old patient meets these checkpoints and is miserable despite non-surgical treatments, why wait? A joint replacement can restore movement, reduce pain, and improve life now—not 20 years from now.

🎧 In the latest KIMEcast, Dr. Sean Robinson, Tony Mikla, DPT, and Russ Dunning, MPT, discuss when to consider joint replacement and why the focus should be on long-term quality of life, not just lifespan. https://youtu.be/nx3JNJy_VM0

🤝 The Key to Recovery: Surgery, Rehab, and the Power of Teamwork!
What makes a great recovery—surgical skill or rehabilitation? The truth is, success in sports medicine isn’t just about one person—it’s about the entire team.
🔹 Surgery sets the stage, but rehab completes the process. The best surgeons know that without expert physical therapists guiding recovery, outcomes suffer.
🔹 Less pain, faster recovery, better results. Advances in surgical techniques mean minimal tissue damage and quicker healing, but rehab determines how well an athlete returns to peak performance.
🔹 The best teams collaborate. Knowing who to trust for rehab, follow-ups, and training makes all the difference in an athlete’s return to play.

🏆 Great outcomes happen when surgeons, therapists, and strength coaches work together.

🎧 In the latest KIMEcast, Dr. Sean Robinson, Tony Mikla, DPT, and Russ Dunning, MPT, discuss how teamwork drives success in sports medicine, from surgery to full recovery.
