The Chinese name for Urinary Bladder 66 is Zu Tong Gu , which translates to Valley Passage. As the water point on the water meridian it has a powerfully cooling effect. It can be used to treat bladder issues like UTI’s or BPH, but can also be cooling to our metaphysical vision of life through the channel's connection to the head, brain, and eyes. Once the needles are placed it is normal to feel any of the following sensations: tingling, warmth, itching, a slight ache, movement of energy, or a feeling of heaviness. These sensations can happen where a needle is placed, or sometimes you feel these same sensations where no needle has been placed, which is even cooler. If any sensation becomes uncomfortable at any point during the treatment just let us know and we will gladly move it. We do treat children at OAP and SAP provided that they are able to sit quietly during their treatment. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Some caregivers bring books or DVDs to occupy kids during treatment. 15 minutes with the needles is usually plenty of time for a younger child. For very small kids we often just do a quick in and out with the needles or use point stimulating “ear seed” stickers instead of needles. We find that kids who want to receive treatment usually do fine; if your child is frightened or just isn’t interested in treatment it is probably better to wait until they are older. Most people find acupuncture treatments very relaxing and comfortable. Acupuncture needles are very fine, so patients often feel nothing or just a very slight sensation when the needle is inserted. While you are resting with the needles in place you may feel some tingling, heaviness, or other sensations of energy movement. All of these are normal and usually pleasant; if anything becomes uncomfortable just let us know and we’ll gladly adjust it.
