✨Back at UCLA speaking with future dentists 💙💛. It’s so important to teach the next generation of dentists what life with Type 1 Diabetes really looks like….not just clinically but the day to day “lived” experience for families navigating it. As dentists , understanding this lived experience shapes more compassionate, thoughtful care for a population at higher risk for oral health challenges.
With the incredible support of the Orange County Dental Society (OCDS), awareness around T1D and oral health is growing. Special thank you to Dr. Noha Nour, OCDS President, for believing in this mission and for truly hearing the voices of so many families, and thank you to Dr. Rana Al Rasheed for bringing much needed awareness to oral-systemic care, bridging medical-dental collaboration. 💙💛

Thank you Department of PediatricDentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry for the opportunity to speak about the connection between oral health and Type 1 Diabetes, and to share our lived experience as both a T1D family and dentists. ✨💙

It was a privilege to discuss how this systemic condition impacts dental health and why awareness matters for our patients, especially children.✨

Individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes face unique oral health challenges and it is absolutely essential that dental professionals understand how to properly navigate their care and management.

As a UCLA alum, it was especially meaningful to be back on campus and reconnect with the school that helped shape my journey in dentistry.

Today, the American Dental Association ADA News highlights an issue close to our heart: improving dental care for children and adolescents and adults living with Type 1 diabetes. 💙
As dentists and as a family impacted by T1D, we see firsthand how oral health and systemic health are interconnected in those with Type 1 Diabetes. With involvement with our national, state and local dental associations we advocate for dentistry as a profession to do better in the diabetes care arena. ✨
