"I know I'm young but I wasn't born last night"

1. There are many different types of therapy both traditional and alternative. Try as many as you can. Keep what works, leave the rest. Don't abandon your path because you think someone else's is prettier and shinier.

2. We all have unique backgrounds, physical constitutions, symptoms, personalities and goals. We can't achieve what we want if we're comparing ourselves to others or thinking that the "norm" of accepted goals should be our goals.

3. Movement meditations like singing, drumming, walking, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or any activity with a focus on breath and mindful presence are incredibly effective meditation practices - [for some people] even more effective than stillness meditation. Trauma must be moved out of the body.

4. Every ancient culture has had a relationship with music, voice, dance, and communing with nature. In the West African tradition, the term Sankofa reminds us to go back for what we have forgotten.
