Very few people come to therapy excited to talk about their childhood. For some, there is the hidden shame of not remembering their childhood all that well. Why do we sometimes feel bad when we can't remember anything bad happening? The good news is we don't have to remember to heal. We need mindfulness to know when we are triggered by the past, and we need self-compassion and connection with trusted others to help us in those moments. Sean’s gratitude list on a Thursday morning:

1. Last night my daughters said, “Dad, let’s watch a family movie. There’s one we want to watch. It’s called ‘Princess Bride.’” What!???…yes, girls, always yes.
2. After staying up too late (see #1) a strong, very pregnant Robin Arzón is there to remind me I’m alive and trauma is healable
3. When Luana is on a trip I miss her because we still like each other after all these years. 14 years next month
