Something special is happening in our NICU! 💙📚

From now through Sept. 18, BayCare’s six NICUs are joining hospitals around the world for the annual NICU Read-a-thon — a 10-day celebration led by Babies with Books. At Mease Countryside Hospital, families and caregivers are filling our NICU with stories, laughter and the comfort of loving voices. 💕

Reading to premature infants not only warms hearts — research shows it helps with brain development, language growth and listening skills. Beyond the science, it’s the magic of connection that means so much to our tiniest patients. ✨

Our volunteer resources department recently hosted its annual Living Springs Retreat at the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa.

The free event brought together women from all ages and backgrounds with one thing in common. They are cancer survivors and thrivers.

Attendees were treated to a day of spa treatments, as well as fun participating in a drum circle, listening to speakers, enjoying delicious meals and visiting with our Caring Paws dogs.

Janet Bell, a member of the Morton Plant Mease volunteer resources department, said, “They came as strangers and left as sisters.”

Dr. Naxdaris Gonzalez joins the family medicine practice of BayCare Medical Group at 120 Pine Ave. N. in Oldsmar. She specializes in family medicine and sees patients age 18 and older. Dr. Gonzalez emphasizes preventive care, weight loss, nutrition and exercise. She’s passionate about finding and correcting the root causes of illness, not just symptoms, and preventing disease before it begins.

Dr. Gonzalez earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Avalon University School of Medicine in Willemstad, Curaçao, and completed a family medicine residency at Florida State University/Winter Haven Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Winter Haven, Florida. Dr. Gonzalez is certified in advanced cardiac life support, basic life support, pediatric advanced life support and neonatal resuscitation. She’s a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Psychiatric Association.
